Hi all,
Beyond the lists, can anyone share colleges where they know (know of) transgender females who love and are thriving where they attend? The student is not looking at highly selective colleges. It is not enough that the school seems to get great marks for LGBTQ as that doesn’t always mean there is a strong presence of T students. The student has already transitioned so access to healthcare etc isn’t as important to her as the school environment and acceptance. Thanks in advance.
Is she open to women’s colleges? I’d be inclined to start there, if so.
This is strictly anecdotal. I know of two trans women - one went to Northeastern and the other Rutgers and both were accepted by their college community. Both transitioned during college which would be harder (as you mention mostly due to healthcare issues). Interestingly, both were techie. My impression is that the current college tech (“nerd”) community is very accepting of all types of people.
You’re probably not looking for more lists, but I’m linking a couple of resources in case you haven’t seen them yet. I strongly agree that LGB-friendly doesn’t necessarily mean trans-friendly.

I have a couple of T friends who graduated from Oberlin and had nothing but nice things to say about it.
When I went to my son’s orientation at SUNY Fredonia, there were no less than three parents of transgender students randomly seated at my lunch table during the parent’s sessions. All of them said that their children were looking forward to attending the school. My son says that the environment is generally open and accepting of all students and he has transgender friends. He actually had transgender friends in HS, as well.
I know two T kids, one male, the other female. One is at Amherst, the other is at SUNY Geneseo. They are both very happy and have been accepted at their schools. I think it’s really about the person, but in general, many colleges are pretty accepting of trans students now. This is stereotyping, but in general, avoid conservative colleges and she will probably be fine.
Bryn Mawr College welcomes trans women (women’s college).
