It has been almost a week since my guidance counselor has mailed out the transcripts and recommendations etc. However the colleges have not yet recieved them. Am I just over anxious or should i consult my guidance counselor on what to do?

It is quite possible that the college has received everything, but hasn't yet logged it into a file with your name. Colleges begin to receive larger and larger volumes of application materials at this time, and sometimes there is a "lag" time between actual receipt and when they acknowledge actual receipt of the materials. Arre you applying ED anywhere?
If not, I would certainly wait another week before inquiring again.

No all my colleges are EA...however they have recieved my app and my SAT scores (online), could the reason be because of that lag you were still talking about? Also if its rolling admissions, how early can i expect to get an answer once they have recieved all of the information?

How long has it taken people for colleges to recieve their mailed information?

For others reading this thread who haven't sent in their materials yet I recommend giving self-addressed post-cards to their counselor, one per college you're applying to. The postcard simply says "X has received the material". The counselor includes the postcard in the package, when the college receives it the person opening the envelope tosses it into the outgoing mail pile. You know they got it, the date stamp tells you about when.

Well some of the colleges im applying to have a special site for me to check what they have recieved so i know that most of them have recieved everything except what i mailed but thats a very good idea

Bloom - if a college has rolling decisions, usually you'll find out within 2-4 weeks after the file is complete. Some schools do have different wait times, though. Why not call the admissions offices and find out? While you're on the line with them, you can also inquire as to the status of your application.

A week is a very short amount of time for items to be sorted by the post office on your end, sent through the USPS system, sorted again at the nearest post office to the destination, delivered to the college, then delivered to the specific office, then opened and sorted with the rest of the bins of mail, then keyed into the school's computer system.

Ok so a little update, they have recieved the stuff from guidance however they have not recieved the teacher recommendation, i find this very hard to believe since the recommendation was enclosed in the same envelope as the rest of the stuff, problem?
