Hi I am a senior in high-school. (my grad year is 2013) I have danced throughout highschool in the program at my school and some outside classes. I really would like to pursue a career in dance (most likely teaching) and stay in California if at all possible. My accumulative G.P.A is around 3.4 (if that info helps). So if anyone could help me out and give me some names of colleges, info, etc that'd be great. (:

UC Irvine has a good program. They also have a very good facility. ABT has its summer program there.

@Oldfort thank you so much! I’ll check it out.

Hi. Chapman University has a great program. My dd auditioned there but it was too far for us to go. Amazing campus.

Csu Long Beach, Csu Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara. UC Irvine is really tops, imo.

I have also heard really good things about Chapman.

Lines Ballet has a program with Dominican University. Have also heard great things about Irvine.

[BFA in Dance (LINES Ballet) — Dominican University of California](http://www.dominican.edu/academics/ahss/performingarts/linesdance)

Wasn’t sure if I should start a new thread, so thought I’d resurrect this one.

I’m just wondering if I could get some opinions on the following CA colleges for dance: UC Irvine, Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Fullerton, Chapman, Loyola Marymount. I’d love to hear thoughts about which you think are (or are considered to be) ‘better’ and why. DD is looking into BA in Dance, more Modern/Contemp focused than ballet. Thanks!

My daughter was impressed with LMU, and she just received her acceptance. She has a number of friends from her modern dance company who have gone to LMU to major in dance. The other top CA program recommended by her Company dance director is Long Beach.

UCI is a strong program, ballet, modern and jazz. It is very competitive to get into though. You can apply to the school as non-dance major and work you way into majoring if you do not get in as a freshman. CSU Long Beach looks good but is heavily impacted so, if you want to go there regardless of whether you get into the dance program or not, apply as a different major and then audition to switch. You can audition there twice. CSU Fullerton is an up and coming program. DD got in and we are going to visit next week, there theatre department is nationally recognized. UC Santa Barbara is good for modern but they do not offer jazz or any urban dance. DD auditioned a couple weeks ago for LMU and was surprised at how much she loved the program, we are still waiting to hear. UC San Diego is good choice for modern and is non audition which is good to have on your list. No school that you have to audition for can be considered a safety as you never know what they are looking for and if it is the same as what you have to offer. DD is waiting to hear from San Diego State dance, she has her academic acceptance but is waiting to hear about the dance program. Dominican University in San Francisco has a BFA program with Lines which is contemporary ballet and you need to be at the pre-professional level or close for that program. I am not as familiar with northern CA schools but maybe others can help you there.
