I am looking for colleges in the DC area, preferably with the DC METRO subway system nearby to make getting to DC easy. GWU, and Georgetown are above my admission standards and I will have little to no chance of acceptance. American and Maryland are a reach for me. CUA looks like a candidate for getting accepted, but I am not Catholic and their code of conduct is to strict for me. They right now are who I am looking at the most though. Can anyone suggest any schools in the DC area that are not to hard to get into or are not HBCU's? I am planning on majoring in Political Science.

Try George Mason U in Virginia.

If you would be happy to start at a community college, Montgomery College has campuses with good Metro access in Rockville and Takoma Park, MD, and Northern Virginia Community College has a number of Metro-accessible locations.

I’d check into Towson (Baltimore suburbs) also and maybe University of Mary Washington (VA). Best of luck!

Towson to DC is doable entirely by public transportation. City buses run from campus to the Baltimore train station where you can pick up the MARC (commuter train) or AMTRAK.

Mary Washington is too far out from DC. I second GMU. It’s not a bad school, and they’re pretty generous with merit aid.

thanks
I actually did some research and discovered GMU last night after posting this
It seems like the best fit for DC metro colleges for me
just wish it had a football team
It sucks when you want to live in DC and almost every college there is either HBCU or insanely hard to get into

George Mason is a great school - just be aware that the Metro is not really walking distance to campus. You would certainly want a car. Trips to DC are very easy by Metro…only if you have a way to get to the station! (only a 10 minute drive…depending on traffic…)
Fairfax and surrounding area have much to offer, but not a “pedestrian friendly” area.

What momneeds said.

You will not be walking anywhere significant from GMU. It is in the middle of a suburban community.

GMu & Towson are your best bets.

sean1833 -

For public transportation connections from GMU to other locations in the DC area, plug the addresses into the Trip Planner at [Metro - Home page](http://www.wmata.com/) The CUE bus will get you from GMU to the Metro and shopping areas around Fairfax [City of Fairfax - CUE Bus](http://www.fairfaxva.gov/CUEBus/CUEBus.asp) so a car is not absolutely necessary.

The Dean of Admissions at GMU keeps up a very informative blog. [My College Options - My College Options ? Prep Talk](<a href=“Encourage - Welcome to myOptions”>Encourage - Welcome to myOptions) You might enjoy reading through it.

Georgetown
GWU
American
Catholic
UMD
GMU (Conservative)
William Mary (not really in metro, but not too far)
Towson (never heard of it, but its there. Might be a community college though)

You could also look into schools in Baltimore.

Towson is actually a University in Baltimore, not DC. It’s as accessible to DC as any other school in Baltimore, which is to say, doable but annoying.

There is also Howard University (oops saw that you didn’t want a HBCU) and Marymount… Not sure by what you mean by “not hard to get in to.”

GMU is probably the easiest unless you go the NVCC-Gauranteed Admission route.

GMU, Catholic University and GW have Gauranteed Admissions (plus other colleges) agreements if you attend Northern Virginia Community College and get your associates.

*GMU has shuttle service to Metro stops. Many of my friends there are “carless.”
