Colleges in NYC

I really want to go to college in NYC, NYU being my dream school, but I don't think I will get in there let alone be able to afford it. So what are some other schools in NYC that are good colleges? I want to go for Business and maybe double major in Art History. I live in Indiana so I'd be out of state. I have a 3.7 GPA and pretty good SAT scores. I want to go somewhere cheap, but I don't want to pick a school that lets anyone in and is a really crappy school.

Given price and location, St. John’s and Baruch are your better bets.

NYC is an expensive place in general so it’s difficult to find a good, affordable school for business there. Now, if you broaden your options and consider campuses close to (but not in) NYC, that’s a different story (maybe).

I think I’ve looked at Baruch once or twice. Do students usually like that school?

NYC really doesn’t have a great school after NYU, there’s a pretty big drop-off. My advice would be to honestly maybe go somewhere else and then come to NYC during summer internships. There is a really strong chance you’ll live there after college, why not go to a better school somewhere else?

slipper, have you forgotten Columbia?

POW.

But, seriously, Fordham. Nobody in her right mind would call it “cheap,” though.

Yeah, I’ve looked at Fordham, but it’s super expensive. I looked at Baruch, why does it have such a terrible acceptance rate?! I looked at the GPA and SAT stats and it didn’t look that rigorous, but the acceptance rate is like 23%. Also, is it even a good school, like will future employers consider me if I graduated from there?

I meant below NYU - Columbia is above it. Sorry for not being more clear.

I just don’t think its worth going to school in New York unless you go to NYU or Columbia. There are far better options around the country, for example Boston University which has a good reputation and is very urban. NYC isn’t going anywhere and chances are you’ll go there after graduation anyway. The only other school I can think of in New York is FIT (which might be a good choice). CUNY honors is supposed to be good, but regular CUNY isn’t that strong.

Wagner
Manhattan College

…although both are fairly expensive also.

Look into Stevens Institute of Technology. It’s in Hoboken NJ, literally on the Hudson River overlooking Manhattan. It’s not cheap (no out of state school is), but most majors are co-op. You will have paid internships, many in NYC, that will effectively reduce your total cost.

The words “new york city” and “cheap” don’t go together.

Especially for OOS.

Baruch probably has a low acceptance rate because it is part of the CUNY system, and is very affordable for NYC residents to attend. It is also business-oriented, so it attracts career-minded students.

You should consider the Pforzheimer (sp?) Honors College at Pace: your GPA would qualify, and, if your boards are good, you’d be a strong candidate. They offer preferential course placement, and some very nice merit-based aid. Although Pace isn’t the greatest college, the Honors program was very attractive.

Hmm…ok. I’ve pretty much looked at all of those colleges. I like Boston University but it’s just as expensive as NYU. I think right now I like Fordham the most, if I can get in and get financial aid. I’m looking at colleges outside of NYC, I just didn’t mention it in this. I want to go to an east coast college. Right now my # 1 choice is University of Delaware, but I have to look at other colleges in case I’m not accepted. Thanks for the help. :)
