Colleges in Ohio courting students far from the Buckeye State

Sparkeye,
Your claim that Ohio State has 500+ enrolled students from Michigan just doesn’t sound credible to me, based on US Department of Education stats on how many enrolled freshmen from Michigan enrolled at OSU in recent years:

2010 46
2008 55
2006 51
2004 51
2002 53

Pretty consistently around 50/year. That doesn’t add up to 500+ undergrads, unless they’re taking an average of 10 years to graduate, which would not speak well of the job the school is doing.

Going the other way, here’s how many Ohio residents enrolled as freshment at the University of Michigan:

2010 148
2008 134
2006 141
2004 181
2002 155

So roughly 3 times as many OhioAns going to Michigan as Michiganders going to Ohio State. As it should be.

Do your figures include grad students? If so, they’re very misleading when presented alongside what otherwise appear to be undergrad stats.
