I'm looking for a good college in or near San Francisco. Good financial aid is a definite plus.
Desired Programs:
~Art
~Foreign Language
~Study Abroad
A college with a residential feel would be nice as well.

I have good stats so getting in shouldn't be a problem.

O.P. What are “good stats?” For Stanford and Berkeley you need top stats and some luck. Do you know your EFC? How much can/will your parents pay?

Does anyone know how badly the public California schools have been affected? Is it worse than other states or are all states having severe educational budget cuts?

Many state schools are suffering huge cut backs. California schools get a lot of attention simply because it’s a huge system and because, up to now, the UCs were a relative bargain while offering a tremendous education and experience.

Note, that if you’re from out of state, California publics will not offer you much – if any! – financial aid.

Thanks for all the excellent information! I have applied to Santa Clara University and am in the process of applying to Saint Mary’s College of California.

SLUMOM
Thanks for the stats for SCU and SMC, it’s appreciated.
I do have a Idaho safety school (Boise State) but I would prefer to go to school out of state. I don’t want to be a potato farmer forever, you know. :)

I’ve heard SF State has a great study abroad program. I think they also have a good art department and are good in foreign languages. Might be cheaper than some of the others.

My sister graduated from SF State but she didn’t recommend it because so many things were being cut and it was getting harder and harder to graduate in 4 years.

gettinin:
I decided to apply to Saint Mary’s and Santa Clara instead of Mills. Mills is a lot smaller than I would like (even though I liked the idea of the Berkeley and CCA classes).

I am not a resident of CA so I don’t think that going to a public UC is a good idea.
