Colleges in the Northeast?

Hi! I'm a student enrolled at a community college, and I currently have nine credits consisting of Western Civilization, Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Writing. My college GPA for the first semester was I believe a 3.67, so I think I have a somewhat good GPA. I plan to transfer into a four-year university in the Fall of 2014, but I have no idea which colleges I should apply to. Many of these school have a complex process of transferring into a nursing program, which makes things quite difficult. Right now I'm looking at Quinnipiac University, UMASS Amherst, and University of Portland (only school I'd apply to one the west coast.) I applied to Rutgers SAS in hopes of doing a school-to-school transfer after a year or so of attending there. Would I be able to get into the schools mentioned about, and could anyone give any good recommendations on schools that I could get into? My HS stats are 3.6 Cumulative and 490:CR, 520:W, 520:M.

What classes should I also take next semester? The community college I am at is very limited in courses because it is on an overseas military base, so I don't have many options. I was thinking of taking an online Nutrition course, or complete my languages. I could take Biology, but I'm 90% sure that it wouldn't transfer well since universities are picky in transferring science credits.

are you in the US armed forces?

No, my dad works with the military. I have no idea what colleges to apply to; but I’d want to be close to my family in NJ. I’m not sure what classes to take here either since there are basically ZERO science classes.

Which state considers you a resident? You should be looking at public institutions in your state of residence. You should take intro biology, intro chemistry, pre-calculus or calculus I, and perhaps the 2 semester physics sequence for health/life sciences.

Wherever your state residency is, contact the AO at the College of Nursing or the AO for your state and talk this over with him or her. Using your cell to do this would be better than email, if you can do that. He or she will know how to advise you and give you more accurate info than I can since you probably don’t live in my state, where I know something about the nursing school. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

HarvardandBerkeley - I thought I would be considered a resident for NJ (since that was the location where my father enlisted in the military,) but there seemed to be troubles when I was communicating with Rutgers. The publics in NJ lack academic quality, so that’s why I was braodening my options and looking out of state. There are literally zero sciences classes here besides Human Biology and I’m not even sure if that will transfer right. I was thinking of taking a language, and maybe a philosophy class to satisfy core requirements.

Jkeil011 - Rutgers doesn’t seem to accept outside transfer, so if I do decided to attend there, I would need to apply from school-to-school. It would be from Arts and Sciences and into the nursing program after a certain amount of credits at Rutgers.

UMass Amherst has an excellent nursing program and I know a few kids who have transferred there successfully.

Would I have a chance with my stats?
