Ok so I'm looking at English universities, especially in London. I want to study International Relations or International Studies, along with Business. I want to take both, but I don't think you can have a double degree in the UK from what I've heard. I would appreciate if someone helped me out with this and I would also love if you guys can recommend a university that offers these subjects.

Thanks!

You would have to look at each individual school for the possibility of taking a ‘double major’. Different universities offer different subject combinations. Most, for example, offer ‘Politics, Philosophy and Economics’; some offer ‘Law and Sociology’. You would have to find a university that offers a degree in ‘International Relations and Business’ or ‘International Affairs and Economics’ - something of that nature.

Where you can get in depends on your standardized test scores, not your GPA - e.g. SAT/ACT, SAT IIs, APs.

The top schools in the UK are generally considered to be:

Group 1:
Oxbridge

Group 2:
Imperial
Durham
St. Andrews
UCL
LSE
Warwick

Group 3:
Bath
Exeter
York
Edinburgh
Bristol
Lancaster

I may be missing a few, but that’s generally the major top universities.

My dd is signed up for a duel degree in international relations and managent at st Andrews. Starts this fall

Scottish universities run a different program than English and Welch schools. They are in between England and the US in.approach.

Ps tbe deadline for many UK schools for us students is june 30 for entrance this fall.

Try King’s College or UCL in London, they have great reputations and are offering the possibility of double majoring easily if you’re admitted to their Liberal Arts program within the university. I think Exeter and Birmingham are starting a similar program too. Tuition is about $15,000 but cost of living in London is huge (think // NYC).

Tuition at UCL and King’s is actually much closer to $22,000+, with cost of living being around $10,000.

@OP - how are you planning to pay for said education? Are you aware of the financial requirements for visa applications?

Do you know what to do to start a double major in St Andrews? Because I’ve been looking and I’m really interested!!

You have to look at which ‘double majors’ St. A’s offers. Unlike in the US, you don’t apply to a college and then you can change your major or add a double major once you get there. In the UK it’s much more focused education - you apply for your specific program; if they don’t offer a joint degree in two subjects in which you are interested, then there’s no way you would able to take those subjects. This is true of all UK universities, unless there are exceptions of which I am unaware.

check out the threads in the United Kingdom forum (inder the International forum). they should be helpful

if you want to go to London then London School of Economics (LSE) is one of the top schools for IR in the world. very hard to get in of course, but it could be a reach

St As and LSE are two of the best IR programs in the world, with two completely different feels. I would look into both and choose a favorite based upon environmental preference, tbh.

University College London?

Edinburgh is in th top 50 in the world for IR and offers several dual honors (IR + x) options. Plus it is a very fun student experience ;-)
