Hello all. Georgetown is my dream school, yet in all likelihood rejection is the most likely option. Are there comparable schools or programs to georgetowns SFS. International relations seems to be a field with more grads than jobs, so seemingly it is a rare field where college, both grad and undergrad matters. So I clumsily ask this, what are the colleges with great IR and a great general education that are less competitive to get into? I do not care much about prestige, I feel like knowing what I'm talking about and being well educated will serve me better than any name on a diploma. I get the impression there are many potential IR grads in the same boat.
After spending untold hours on this site, I figured I would ask a question. I wish my first post were a little less parasitic and more contributal.

Tufts has a strong IR program (more so in grad). Obviously HYPS all have excellent programs.

Thank you. I don’t think I’m HYPS level. I might get in at Tufts though. I’m more focused on under grad right now

Boston University

Take a look at George Washington and American - both in DC with great internship networks.

Check out
Rochester
Claremont
George mason
Boston college
Colgate

Thanks to all. These seem to be well thought out suggestions, and for that I thank you

Here is a link of good IR programs. Far Right column is undergrad

Madeline Albright loves William & Mary.

Colleges that are a step below G’Town in selectivity in the DC area are your best bet. George mason, American, Towson St., GW come to mind.

Syracuse University’s Maxwell School might be a good less selective option.

Not sure why people aren’t stressing the George Washington University and American University more! They are both in the top 10 for IR and are both not nearly as selective as any other college in the top 10. They are both in DC, so you know you are going to get an internship on the Hill, haha. Or maybe an embassy, the IMF or something of that sort…

GWU is your best bet. I’m friends with a professor (econ) who teaches there and he was telling me about how the school spends an insane amount of money on their ir program. there are students who get internships at world bank and imf (but not guaranteed if yo go to gwu or georgetown as these internships are extremely competitive).

Thank you all, these are really good suggestions. The general consensus is that schools in and around DC tend to be good, right? I can’t imagine GWU or American have good merit aid tho

Notre Dame, Holy Cross are similar to Gtown.
