Hello,
I am a high school senior going through the college search process. I am not having much luck finding the right college for me. My current top choice is Yale. I wanted to know if anyone could help me by suggesting colleges that are similar to Yale but that I will have a better chance of being accepted into.

To give you more to go off of I like Yale because of the many opportunities it presents, the sense of community from the residential college system, and how it is located in a major area. Previous to Yale my top choice was Boston College. I loved everything about BC (the medium size, the access to the city, the school spirit, etc.) however, BC is no longer one of my top choices because it does not offer all majors I am interested in. I am applying undecided but want to have the option to major in areas such as economics/finance, chemistry, and engineering. So far I have applied to UConn, BC, Northeastern, and Villanova. I plan to also apply to Yale and Columbia. What are other schools similar to Yale and BC that I would have a higher chance of being accepted into than Yale?

Thank you!

In case this helps:
SAT- 1980
ACT- 33
GPA- 4.25, salutatorian
EC- President of youth commission, VP of Spanish nat'l honors society, VP of Interact community service club, member of Unicef, nat'l honors society,Unified Sports, varsity tennis, dance, and hostess at local restaurant

Rochester, Rensselaer, Tulane, Ohio State, UMaryland, Rutgers, Syracuse come to mind. The ACT score will serve you better than the SAT. Assuming money is not a factor. Good luck.

Rice is supposed to be similar, mostly because of the residential colleges. You might look at University of Oklahoma, too - likely a very different “feel” but surprisingly similar course offerings. I needed to get my Yale transcript translated into Oklahoman a few years ago, and could find a match for most of my classes at OU.

Oklahoma?! While I love the school, it’s NOTHING like Yale or BC. Also, just because some of the courses are similar does not mean that the quality of the students, the level of resources, and the overall academic rigor are even in the same time zone as Yale (although honors at OU might be comparable and indeed better than BC).

Some suggestions for you are Providence College, Fordham University, Tufts, Trinity College, Amherst College, UPenn, Swathmore College, and Haveford College.
