Colleges look more at gpa or individual grades?

Ok so im a junior in highschool. I would consider myself fairly active in school. I do a lot of musical extracurriculars and im in PreCal and Spanish 4. My only problem... my first semester grade in PreCal was a 60% a D... will colleges look down upon that if my other grades are mainly A's and B's?

Please reply!!

I had somewhat of the same question. Do colleges primarily look at end-of-the-year Grades or do they look by quarter/trimester/semester? I have Bs/As inconsistently thru the year, but I end up with B+s-As on my EoY grades. In essence, my EoY grades look much better than quarter by quarter.

@collegeeager: whatever is on your transcript, your colleges will see. I’m not sure that any schools have grades written down by quarter/trimester or semester on their transcripts, so colleges will most likely see your EofY grades.

However, if your colleges require a mid year report card for your senior year, then semester or quarter grades will be sent.

@acursedlullaby: Because math is a core class, it will hurt a little more that you didn’t do so well than if you got the same grade in cooking class or some other elective. Some schools recalculate your GPA without electives and phys Ed, but math, as one of the core classes, is not usually left out of this calculation.
But don’t worry - not all hope is lost. You will still be able to god a college to attend!
