About half of the colleges on my list are making me declare a major or pick a specific school within the college within the school to apply to (Lehigh, Villanova, BU, etc). The problem is, I really don't know what I want to do, but I'm fairly confident I want to do something in the sciences/engineering. Should I apply to the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Engineering? Which one is generally more competitive? Will picking one of those over the other hurt my chances of being accepted?

Just my opinion: If your stats are good for Engineering, pick Engineering because it’s usually harder to transfer into that program. A lot of Engineering freshmen do transfer out by the end of the year.

I’m not a super competitive applicant for any of those schools, they are actually high matches/reaches. I have a 1940 SAT and a 3.9 weighted GPA if that helps at all

Some Colleges of Arts and Sciences allow you to be undeclared within the college. Check each school.

If it’s a reach, and you’re not sure about Engineering anyway, you might have a better shot at applying to Arts & Sciences.
