Colleges NOT going on Waitlists this year

Bump- someone on the open waitlist thread requested this!

Amherst
Bowdoin
Colgate University
Columbia University - SEAS only
Dartmouth
Grinnell
Hobart William Smith
Kenyon
Lehigh University
Occidental
Pitzer
St Olaf
Tufts University
University of Michigan
University of Rochester
Wake Forest
Washington University in St. Louis

Other than Keilexandra, can anyone else verify that Amherst will NOT be going to the waitlist this year?

I think Amherst actually said they weren’t going to the wait list this year. Dartmouth is still unsure if they will be.

I’m not sure if Tufts said anything yet … although it’s name is on the list. Is this list of colleges NOT going to the waitlist or the ones still UNSURE yet and want to see waitlist action at other schools first?

Wow. I noticed that a lot of kids we know got into and are going to Rochester this year. It’s a school that has moved up quite a bit in their yields.

Tufts has not officially said anything about their waitlist yet. My S is WL’ed and has been in contact with them and they told him on Monday that their acceptance numbers “keep trickling in” and it’s “unlikely” they will go to their waitlist. Official announcement of if they will use or not use the WL won’t be for another week or two.

This is a fluid list of colleges that acknowledge they’ll be going to their wait list or not. It is most likely to change. In fact, there’s a domino effect where one student, who deposited at one school, finally gets off the WL at another. Then, the school that had the deposit now has an opening to fill. And so on.

I was also thinking we might want to list the schools that expect to go to their WL, but only at a very limited level. Like JHU is expecting to only ask 30 students if they’d prefer to attend and Princeton is expecting to ask 100…as of their latest announcement.

Skidmore has officially announced they aren’t going this year

The campus newspaper reported on May 6th, “The Class of 2014 not only yielded more deposits than the Office of Admissions expected, but it also has shown the highest test scores ever, according to Jennifer Delahunty, dean of admissions and financial aid. Currently, the Class of 2014 has 498 deposits, but Admissions anticipates that the class will be about 460 come fall, after 20 to 30 students defer or change their minds over the summer.”

In a May 5th article, the New York Times, citing a contemporaneous National Association of College Admissions Council Survey, reported that Whitman still had spaces. [‘Vacancy’ Signs Still Posted in Front of Many Colleges - The Choice Blog - NYTimes.com](<a href=“'Vacancy' Signs Still Posted in Front of Many Colleges - The New York Times”>'Vacancy' Signs Still Posted in Front of Many Colleges - The New York Times) Accordingly, I have to conclude that it was included in the above list in error.

Virginia tech has stated that they are currently overenrolled

bestregards… There are other colleges also on that report that are not going to the waitlist. I imagine they are making some generalized statement that says the college can support X number of kids and the enrollment projection is that they will be below X. It does not mean the college will go to the WL. There was a thread in another forum on this report where it was torn apart for being very misleading and the data not being accurate to what admissions departments were telling people.

i know suny geneseo isn’t going to its waitlist this year from the facebook group

The Space Available list that you referred to says that Whitman is closed to freshmen but has only limited spots for transfers. I also heard that Whitman is not going to their wait list this year.

Gleeful – That is absolutely not true. The daughter of a good friend of ours was admitted from the waitlist a couple weeks ago.
