As you can see from the title, I'm interested in colleges that offer a solid grounding both in science/engineering and in art/music (I put the slashes in because I can only choose one of the two). I know Carnegie Mellon has an interdisciplinary program, as well as WashU in St. Louis, but I'm not sure whether these are particularly well-known, or if they're as effective as majoring in a science/engineering school with an art/music minor on the side.

In short, I'm definitely going to be involved in science and the arts in college, but I'm just uncertain as to which program of study I should pursue. I have an equal desire to pursue both, and I need some recommended colleges to look into. Any advice?

In many universities, you can double major in the topics you’ve chosen (although it’s generally very difficult particularly with engineering). I know several students who are majoring in science and music or science & art history at schools like University of Rochester. I’m not sure why you need a “dual degree” program.

A bit more information would be helpful.

Check out Northwestern U, which has well established dual degree programs associated with it’s school of music.

@Chedva - I’m not interested in art history; rather, what I meant was the traditional artistic education offered by a BFA in the visual/performing arts. I’m thinking that a minor wouldn’t offer as much depth, and a double major (though difficult) usually gets you a dual degree anyway.

@FindAPlace - Thanks, I’ll check that out.

So I’m essentially looking for alternatives to programs like the [Brown-RISD dual degree program](<a href=“Home | Brown | RISD Dual Degree Program | Brown University”>http://risd.brown.edu/), given the program’s low rate of admission. I’m also still open to a music school instead.
