The Ohio State University is strongly committed to creating a diverse campus community that is inclusive of undergraduate students engaged in leadership and service. As one of the premier merit-based scholarships in the United States, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s (ODI) Morrill Scholars Program (MSP) rewards academically exceptional students who are actively engaged in diversity-based leadership and service activities and eager to serve as student ambassadors and champions of academic excellence and diversity.

MSP recipients have ongoing opportunities to participate in educational enrichment experiences, such as study abroad, undergraduate research, and professional/graduate school preparation and career development programs. MSP scholars also enjoy a wide range of experiences that focus on personal and professional development as well as service-learning.

MSP scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students admitted to the Columbus campus for the autumn semester following high school graduation. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States. For more information, please visit odi.osu.edu.

MSP consideration
MSP is a very competitive diversity scholarship. Recipients of the MSP scholarship typically rank in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating classes, with middle-range ACT composite scores of 27–32 or combined SAT Critical Reading and Math scores of 1220–1420. Recipients generally bring experiences that will greatly enhance campus diversity.

Award levels
Note: Due to their values, MSP scholarships replace all other university merit awards a student may have been offered.

The Distinction Scholarship is equivalent to the value of the cost to attend Ohio State for both Ohio residents and nonresidents. It includes room and board, a book allowance, and miscellaneous expenses.
The Prominence Scholarship is awarded to nonresidents. This scholarship is equivalent to the value of both in-state tuition and the nonresident surcharge.
The Excellence Scholarship is awarded to Ohio residents. This scholarship is equivalent to the value of in-state tuition.
How to apply
For priority consideration, submit the Common Application and all required materials by November 1, 2013. Be sure to indicate your interest in MSP on the Common Application and complete all required MSP sections.

Just confirming what was mentioned in an earlier post about the University of Arizona. My dd received a letter in the mail yesterday offering her $30,000/year (we are out of state), $1500 for study abroad and automatically in the honors program for being a National Hispanic Scholar. This is the only offer she has received but I was wondering if anyone else has received offers from other Western (our location) or Southwest Schools? Seems like most of the schools mentioned earlier are in the east. Thanks for any input.

We’re in California. My dd also received the same letter from U of A yesterday. In addition, she also received the National Hispanic Scholar full tuition or near full tuition from Arizona State University, University of New Mexico and University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Has anyone received anything for schools back east? She also received other letters with smaller scholarships (U of Iowa and Carleton College).

I specifically asked Northeastern for information about scholarships for the 2014-2015 incoming freshman class, so the $30,000 is for 2014-2014.

Mississippi State has re-instituted their National Hispanic Scholarship that covers tuition, fees, and books for 4 years. There are additional GPA and ACT/SAT test score conditions but it’s very achievable.

A few pages back, someone had a student who was looking for a school within a 3 hour drive of Maryland. Why not apply to UMBC? They have a great programs especially for minority students.

My son received the invitation to apply for NHRP (and is doing so). He has high SATs but not a super high gpa. He wants a school with film and computing…top school is UT Austin, but I’m interested in hearing about any other schools with cinematic arts/film/film production degrees that offer scholarships to NHRP students…I’ve noted that U of New Mexico has a film program, and CSULB. Others?

Has anyone who received an NHRP invitation to apply, heard anything over the summer months? When do colleges start sending out their information to the students?

NHRP scholar award was recieved today by D2. What does this really mean? Should she apply to the schools on her list and include the designation on the common app, or does NHRP open the doors to other external scholarships? She has a 2170 SAT, 2nd in class; 4.0; and strong EC’s (3 leads in high school musicals; NHS; 4 years Varsity soccer).

Definitely include it on her app in “Honors”…but it might be worth looking at additional colleges that offer scholarships. What colleges is she looking at now?

Bopper, she doesn’t have a wide ranging list. Presently, it is limited to Fordham, Bucknell, Muhlenberg (all legacy), as well as Wesleyan, Brown, and Villanova. She doesn’t want a lot of drama with where to go to school, but she (and we) could really use a scholarship!

I know this is some years later, but my daughter has just been named NHS and is also interested in USC and UCLA. Can you or anyone share any info from USC or UCLA or Texas A&M?
