Congrats to your S and thanks for posting all the great information.

Funny, we’re in OR, but I don’t remember any recruitment from Willamette. However, I might have just blocked it out as I knew both kids wanted to go further than an hour from home if at all possible ;).

Hi all! Thanks for the clarification, Jokahugo! It has been a while. FYI to all, my list was not anywhere close to definitive, he received tons of solicitation letters from all over, he only applied to places he could see himself going. UT Dallas also stands out in my memory as one that was very persistent, maybe Alabama, too?
His PSAT was 209 as a sophomore and went down to 204 as a junior, argh. If he had scored the equivalent to his one try at the SAT (just three months later as a junior), he should have scored in the 220+ range on the PSAT, but no such luck. Regardless, he is thrilled where he is going, so no complaints!
Good luck parents of 2013 kids, get ready for a ride!

The new link has the info for the 2013 scholarships. It is even more generous than what was listed in the previous link. Tuition, athletic fees, & housing! :)

Here is a list of colleges offering guaranteed full-tuition scholarships up to full-ride to their admitted students with NHRP designation. These colleges are “financial safety” schools.

(Note: There are numerous colleges offering partial scholarships or limited (numbered) full-tuiton scholarships to NHRP recipients. The compilation below is of colleges that offer guaranteed full-tuition scholarships to all of their admitted students with the NHRP designation. Some or most colleges on this list have already been mentioned previously on this thread).

National Scholarship

Thanks for the listing windows, good schools for people to consider.

I haven’t looked at all of these, but some do not appear to be ‘guaranteed’. NEU says that NHRP are only “eligible” and the UConn Nutmeg states on the link you gave that “Selection is highly competitive.”

Hello entomom: Thank you for pointing out the UConn Nutmeg and NEU. I sent an email to both colleges to confirm. I haven’t received a response from UConn, but I did receive this response from Northeastern:

“… As a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar, if you are admitted to Northeastern AND a U.S. citizen or documented permanent resident, you will receive a full tuition Northeastern National Hispanic Scholarship. You must submit National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar documentation to us by February 1, 2013 to Undergraduate Admissions via fax (617-373-8780) or email (i.figueroa@neu.edu). Please also remember, in order to also be considered for financial aid, families should submit the CSS Profile and FAFSA.”

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
2013-2014 Terms and Conditions | financialaid.arizona.edu
National Scholars Award
Full-tuition scholarship / room and board / iPad / $1.5k Study Abroad / Admission to Honors College

From the school’s website:

Award Amount:
1.Arizona Scholars: $15,000 per academic year + one-time iPad + one-time $1,500 Study Abroad Award
2.Non-Arizona Scholars: $30,000 per academic year + one-time iPad + one-time $1,500 Study Abroad Award

The award amounts definitely do not cover all tuition, room, and board. The amounts might cover tuition, but how did you determine that room and board would be covered?

@ScienceGirlMom: I apologize for putting in “room & board” under the University of Arizona. I previously read somewhere that it was. I did go to the college website, and I gathered the following info:

For University of Arizona it doesn’t explicitly say National Hispanic Recognition Scholars, only National Scholars. I believe it did use to have it though, does that mean they’ve dropped it or does National Scholar apply to both?

Just to be sure, the actual award certificate doesn’t matter, right? My counselor at my school is new, and I’m pretty sure she’s unfamiliar with the program. I have already been notified by mail (by the collegeboard) that I received recognition.

Congratulations!!!
Remember that full tuition is great but it is very far from a Full-ride. Make sure you understand all the costs and the conditions to keep the scholarship. Still it is a great accomplishment. You should be proud.

Is the Fordham full-tuition award automatic if you’re a Nat. Hispanic Scholar? The web site makes it like like the NHS designation qualifies you for consideration, but it’s very competitive to win it.
