Colleges Offering Significant Scholarships?

I’m from Texas and have had my sights set on UT and A&M for a long time. I have a Texas Tomorrow Fund so my tuition is paid for at any public university in Texas. However, I want to still have options as to where I go to college and not just be limited to Texas even though I know we have some great universities. That being said, any colleges I consider have to offer generous scholarships, either to pay the full-tuition or a significant portion of it. I applied to Xavier University today after being told by a family friend that her daughter had been offered a full ride there. Any other schools or suggestions that you can recommend would be greatly appreciated!

What are your stats? How much can your parents pay each year for 4 years? What’s your projected FAFSA EFC? Any siblings?

Without knowing your SAT or ACT score and GPA, it is very hard to offer suggestions.

Texas Tech gives merit. Do you also qualify for Texas state grant?

I am 13/362 in my class which puts me into the top 4%. My SAT score is 1340 (new) but that was my first try without practicing and I am planning on taking it again in November. I have been in the top 10% of my class my entire high school career. I am also involved in some different clubs and honor societies at school (Serteens, Rho Kappa, Mu Alpha Theta, Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, and I am planning on joining NHS this year). I haven’t had any leadership positions in any of these however, so I don’t know if that will effect anything or not. I was also notified by my school a few weeks ago that I am a Rotary Scholar because I am in the top 5% of my class. Also, I decided not to take an extremely rigorous course load this year after finding out that my school did not offer several AP classes that I had planned on taking. The AP classes I am taking are AP English 4, AP Government & Economics, and AP Calculus AB. In addition to that I am taking aquatic science (I took two AP sciences my junior year) and have an office aide period and a teacher’s aide period. Other than this year though, I have had very demanding course loads every year.

I have a sister who is a sophomore this year at Texas State. I have not filled out a FASFA because she filled one out when she was applying for colleges and based on my parents’ income she was not eligible for any financial aid. My parents are probably not going to be willing to pay much for tuition, seeing as how if I went to a state school in Texas they wouldn’t have to pay anything out of pocket except for room/board and books.

What were the test scores of the friend’s DD?

Looks like Xavier has a “full tuition”, not a full ride award.

Typical recipients of the St. Francis Xavier scholarship rank in the top 5 percent of their high school class with a GPA of at least a 3.75 and have a minimum SAT of 1360 (ACT of 31). Selected students will be interviewed on campus in the spring of the student’s senior year.
