Is it a fact, for sure, that colleges take your transcript and recalculate your GPA completely? So in reality, they will disregard whatever your transcript says? (Lets say its on a 12 point scale, or some other scale.) I am particularly asking in regards to top colleges including HYP.

If so, how do they do it? Is 4.0 equal to 90-100 or do they factor in A- and A+? And do they calculate weighted or unweighted?

Most colleges aren't going to take the time to recalculate your gpa unless it goes into some formula. They'll look at it as a guide, but top schools will look at your transcript and see what grades you got in what courses. If someone has a 3.95 on an unweighted system with A's and an A- here or there, it's going to be the same as a 4.5 on a weighted system with the same letter grades. They won't disregard what the transcript says, but it's the grades that are actually on it that matter.
