Colleges sending you emails?

Are colleges sending you alot of emails now because of your Psat? Theres a whole bunch that are basically sending the same booklet with diffrent names. Is this happening to anyone else.

Also.. when you took the PSAT and you put down what you wanted to major in, what if that change? Is there a way to change it on the College Board site?

Exact same boat... I put down music major on the PLAN test which is about the last thing I want to do now.

Too many, especially from colleges I have no interest in.

^ i got 3 good ones (rutgers, nyu, brown), but not necessarily asking me to request more info on the school. the rest include schools i have never heard of. my junk mail folder and mailbox r loaded

haha yea i know what you guys mean :)
it was cool for the first couple days, but after that it just started getting annoying :(

i get a lot by like .. regular mail, too. but i have the lady who works for my family filter those out and trash them. cause they're all lameee

the only good ones ive gotten so far are pitzer and usc
other than that ive never heard of them

I'm with you guys. It's common for them to spell my name incorrectly. Some even resort to semi-stalking emails warning me to reply soon.

I don't get a lot of e-mails because they thought that my j in my address was an i. I've corrected a couple of colleges on the mistake. Worst thing I've done in a while.

Those e-mails are taking up so much unnecessary space in my inbox. Question : does getting an e-mail from the college mean that you have a pretty good chance at being accepted? ( I received a few from brandeis, williams and grinell) or are they completely meaningless?

I just got one from St. John's that sounded sort of menacing. It started off:

fuzzylogic, it's time to apply....

Haha, none of the colleges I want to go to sent me one.

^yeah i know, it's kinda disappointing. but i'm not asking for anything, cuz i know my PSAT was not good enough. better luck next year!

"does getting an e-mail from the college mean that you have a pretty good chance at being accepted? ( I received a few from brandeis, williams and grinell) or are they completely meaningless?"

No, it doesn't mean anything.

Hey,
Has anyone gotten harvard, princeton and that type of email or mail, or do these colleges not send out recruit letters

I doubt HPY do but I got some from Columbia, Brown and other top tier schools. I dont think HPY need people to know about them. The 8% of students they will accept all ready have known about them since they were 3yrs old.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but colleges send emails and letters to thousands upon thousands of high schoolers. It's how they advertise. They even send mail to people who have no chance at getting in because one more application = one more application fee paid to them. So don't take this too seriously. Brandeis/Harvard/Yale/Amherst/whatever isn't necessarily going to accept you because they sent you an email in response to a PSAT score that doesn't actually count for anything. The rest of your awesome stats have to match up as well :)

Have I got a lot of emails? No.

Letters and booklets? Oh yeah.

I've been getting alot of regular mail. The only reason I haven't been getting email is because they must have read my email wrong, because all the colleges who send me letters have it down as [myname]z@yahoo.com when its supposed to be [myname]2@yahoo.com. I feel bad for whoever is [myname]z.

Aren't the letters and booklets such a waste of money, paper, and ink? They raise our tuition to over $30,000 and then spend most of it to send out stupid postcards to the whole nation.

I wonder what goes through college's minds. Very few people actually pay attention to them. Personally, I just make two piles of mail, one for colleges and one for my parent's. The college one goes right into the recycling.

I have gotten sooooo many emails from various colleges it's a joke. And none of them are ones that I am remotely interested in. On the PSAT thing, they had the spot for desired major, but they didn't list my major, so I just put down the general category. None of the colleges that send me letters even have the major I want.

Though I did get an email from MIT. My precalc teacher laughed at that. ^_^
