I'm a current junior, and I absolutely love Midd! I live on the West Coast though, so I have no idea what East Coast LACs are like. What schools are similar to Midd but more of a match-school? (My stats aren't that great. SAT=2010, GPA=3.62, ACT=32.)

Current List:

Middlebury College
Bowdoin College
Colby Colege
Connecticut College
Whitman College

^Most of those are barely easier to get into than Middlebury with most having similar to even higher SAT medians. You may also want to look at Bucknell, Lafayette, Union, Skidmore, Franklin & Marshall.

Based on the stats given, it is nearly impossible to say that they are too low. I have said it many times on this board, but not every school weights grades or ranks it's students. First of all, this is a junior and regardless, 32 is not a low ACT score by any stretch; half of Midd's class of 2012 scored within this range. Based on the post, you have no idea if the 3.62 GPA was earned by taking all accelerated and AP classes or what. SAT scores, not broken out into verbal and math, doesn't give you much info either but again the scores fell into the mid-50% of acceptances.

While S's stats are slightly higher for senior year, he is still at the top of his class in a school that has seen only four 4.0 students in the past 26 years and the average GPA of his class is 3.36. With the ivy's taking 41 students from his school in the past four years, and another 61 having headed to NESCAC schools in graduating class sizes of 125, I'd say it is really impossible to guess if a school is a reach or a match based on the information given, not only on this thread, but on any of them. It is all about context.

I live in the west too...and I am going to Bowdoin next year. Lots of people from here like to go to Whitman, Willamette, and Gonzaga. So i would say thats the closest you are going to get to these types of schools on the west coast.
