Should I tell the truth? This college is actually my 2nd or third choice, so I don't really want to reveal the other colleges I'm applying to, as it may be obvious that they're not my first choice. Any advice? How will listing my other colleges affect my chances at this college??? Thanks for any help or insight you can give me!

Would this be Rice by any chance?

It's usually never marked as required, and tons of people get in without answering that question. One option is to only list schools that are equivalent or "lesser". Most of my supplements that ask that didn't allow me enough room to put my full list (ran out of characters), so I just put down comparable schools and my safeties.

Nope, not Rice

Adaman ~ thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, nothing at all on the app is marked "required", so I assume that everything is. So are you saying that I should put down comperable schools and my safeties so that this particular college thinks they're my first choice? How would this affect my chances for financial aid, tho? Wouldn't this school give me more money if they think I might get into a better school? Do school's have any way of knowing what other school's you've applied to ? Seems I've heard somewhere that when you check off where to send your SAT scores, the schools see everywhere you checked....does anyone have any info on this ....or any more advice?

If you're doing a common application, a yellow dot will indicate whether it's required or not next to the question.

If this school allows the common app and you simply aren't using it, check if the commonapp supplement requires an answer to this question. If you don't have a commonapp account, feel free to pm me the school you're talking about and I'll check for you.

If you DO need to list the schools, I think you have two reasonable choices. List all the schools you're applying to, or list all the schools of similar environment (liberal arts college, anything that makes the particular school unique)...Schools want to know you're interested in their school; showing you're applying to other schools with the same "feel" (regardless of caliber) is a good sign
