The students at the University of Oregon – and indeed, most of the colleges and universities in the Pacific Northwest – seem to be very much into environmental activism.

yes, I happened to be surfing U Puget Sound (LAC, ~2500 undergrads) last night & noticed they were keen on sustainability stuff…

What about Cal-Berkley and their tree people living in trees in order to protest them being chopped down for a football practice facility? If you want to spend years in a tree, sounds like a good place.

I’d say Whitman, Northland, and Univ. Alaska–Fairbanks.

First industrial strength college wind turbine, green campus sustainability leader, 880 acre arboretum, etc., etc.

Humboldt State is about as environmentally active as you can get. You won’t find them on any of the sustainability reports and others listed on this forum as they don’t participate but just do their own thing in their own quiet way. The green party is the dominating political party there. Their Natural Resources major is one of the largest on campus, so no matter what your major, you tend to get swept up in the momentum. Recycling bins outnumber trash cans even though the town of Arcata is about as far away as one can get from recycling centers. Two large natural food stores in town and otherwise a Safeway.
From the Humboldt website: HSUs recently drafted Master Plan states that HSU will be the campus of choice for individuals who seek, above all else, to improve the human condition and our environment and that individuals must be environmentally, economically and socially responsible in the quest for viable and sustainable communities." Humboldt State has an impressive history of student involvement in the pursuit of a healthier and more sustainable campus and community.
Trinity is trying. Our homecoming this weekend is going to be powered by wind.

There are also plans of a new, green, $85-million science and mathematics building to be erected in the near future.

Also, nearby Pomona has a student-run environmental group called [url=http://www.pomonacampusclimatechallenge.org/about/]Pomona Campus Climate Challenge](http://www.pitzer.edu/sustainability/index.asp) that meets weekly to discuss environmental issues; environmental sustainability was the central theme of President Oxtoby’s 2007 Commencement Address [Extraordinary Student Leadership on Environmental Practices Celebrated at Pomona College Graduation](http://www.pomona.edu/events/news/NewsItems/051407commence.shtml).

Williams just opening a new environmental center. Their freshman entries and other housing units compete for least energy usage in campaign called “Do it in the dark.”

Williams manages 2500 acre Hopkins Memorial Forest that includes environmental initiates. Environmental club is very active and welcoming. S is a frosh and has already seen Michael Polan speak and climbed to top of Mount Jiminy to investigate wind turbines.

You can’t beat Humboldt State in California.

Interesting bits about Williams and Carleton - definitely piqued my interest!

I’m not looking to study Environmental Science…just wanna do the activism stuff

Look at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. This is definitely a priority on that campus.

Middlebury!

Oberlin is continuously taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment, and it’s very easy for students to be involved. And our environmental studies building is awesome.

Here is a blog on this topic:

Not to mention it was chosen for a $500 million deal with BP to develop alternative fuels (80% of it is going to Berkeley, the rest to UIUC).
