Sorry if this topic has been discussed before many times but I was wondering if the book, Colleges That Change Lives by Loren Pope, is actually accurate in terms of its evaluation of big universities. If you are attending or have attended a big university, do you regret going there?

I think a lot of large colleges do change lives, especially for those wide eyed freshman! I know PennState UP does that for lots of kids. Lots of kids who go to PSU,OSU, Illinois, and Iowa STate (those large schools with which I am most familiar) have their lives altered forever. Just the exposure to the availability of drugs/drinking might turn some kids. And, especially for freshman, the experience of being more on-their-own than those kids at some LACs has to be overwhelming. I think those kids on teams or in clubs right from the freshman year have the best experiences.

I recently re-read that book and was fairly disappointed at the schools Pope left off the list. And, I disagreed with some of them.

Sorry for posting twice, accident
Sorry for posting twice; it was an accident.

spider, as a college student (or prospective one) by now you've been introduced to the idea that authors have agendas and biases. You need to take it into account when reading his book, just like reading any other book (even a text in your class).
