I have a question about colleges that don't look at 9th grade (Princeton and Stanford, I believe). My school includes a 9th-12th ranking and a 10th-12th ranking on its transcript.

I am 5th for the 9th-12th ranking, but 1st for the 10th-12th ranking. I received two B's my first semester of freshman year. However, after my first semester, I became a better student. My transcript reflects that as I have straight A's apart from those two B's.

Will Princeton and Stanford use the 10th-12th ranking? Also, for other top colleges (Yale, Pomona) will they consider the 10th-12th ranking?

Thanks.

the ones that don’t consider ninth will use 10-12 ranks. Consider yourself lucky that you have those!

Yeah my school only has four year class ranks. In any case, a difference between 5th and 1st won’t make a big difference, anyway.

wait, so Stanford and Princeton recalculate class rank?

Interesting, i thought they disregarded 9th grade GPA but didnt knew the recalculated class rank.

SO it is more likely for a kid who did badly his freshmen year to get into Princeton than say… Brown, given exceptional grades 10-12th.

I thought so too, but most high schools don’t give out class ranks for 10-12. I’m not submitting my rank because my grades are good 10-12 but not in 9th grade, so even though my gpa is decent…my rank def doesn’t show it.

I think though, colleges will put away the rank if it really doesn’t represent the student. Or at least I hope so.
