Colleges that don't require algebra 2 to get into.

Hey guys! I’m a Junior currently attending a private high school in California. I have my eye on becoming a national park ranger ever since the beginning of my freshman year.

I am confident in all my abilities that are required to be a park ranger, but I CAN NOT do math. I can’t do it to the point where I’m afraid I can’t make it into a private college.

Currently, I can not pass Algebra 2 and had to drop it so I could actually complete my credits for the current year. I have passed the other classes below Algebra 2, like Geometry and Algebra 1, I have tried numerous private tutors that focus on everything math related and I still can’t understand it to the point where I forget everything I’ve learned the next day.

I have struggled in math ever since I can remember. Every single year I passed the math classes just close enough that I didn’t have to take summer school. I do have ADD and taking medicine that totally helps me focus, I can focus on everything except math for some odd reason. In no circumstance am I an idiot, as I said I can pass my other classes with A’s and B’s. I just can’t do Algebra 2.

All I want is to find is a college that does not require Algebra 2 to get into so I can become a national park ranger. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Community college.

However, you may have to pass algebra 2 or a course that requires it as a prerequisite (e.g. statistics) to earn a degree.

And it is very difficult to get a job as a full time park ranger. Some are seasonal. Do some research. You need a fall back plan.

Since you already have a formal diagnosis for the ADD, go back to the psychologist who did your screening, and get a formal evaluation for dyscalculia and any other LDs that could affect your ability to master the content in Algebra 2. Then you can have your IEP re-written to include accommodations for whatever is identified, and your school’s LD team can help you find math strategies that will work for you.

Math is not going to just be a college admission issue for you. It will be a college graduation issue as well. Spend some time researching the typical graduation requirements for natural resources, forestry, and other majors that will help you reach your career goal. You need a long-range strategy for meeting the math requirements for your college degree.
