Colleges that have what I'm looking for

Hi all,

As I go into my senior year, I struggle to find a college that has everything I want.

I have a 34 ACT, 4.21 W GPA, and Great EC’s(creating successful business, clubs, volunteering etc.) and from Michigan so I can deal with the cold.

I would like to go to a large mid-size university( 6k-15k) and has a nice campus, but it doesn’t have to be a college town. I’d also like to go to a school that active, with D1 sports and many students, attend the games. Also, I’m kind of laid back smart student, but I will put in the work to do well; I would like to be at college with a similar vibe. I am also interested in many majors such as neuroscience, business, Biomed engineering, political science( I like my gov class), and CS

I realize U of M has many of these things, but I also think it may be too big for me to succeed in, and at least 50-70 kids from my school go there every year and I want to make new friends.

Thanks a Ton

Boston College, Villanova, Lehigh, William & Mary, (smallest is 5k and largest is 9k)

Maybe Wake Forest, new Biosciences center (Wake Downtown) in downtown Winston-Salem, with bioengineering one of the new degrees being offered. In the ACC, made the NCAA tournament in men’s hoops and is playing Texas A&M in a bowl game this month.

Also, Wake Washington facility and Wake the Vote program:

Note that the school does place an emphasis on “interest” in admissions. I believe it is too late to interview in person or by Skype (you could check), but a visit or other active efforts to learn about the school would be helpful. Good luck!

Wake is great! It’s a tad smaller than what you request which is why I didn’t list it (5k undergrad). My S is a freshman there and LOVES it. We’ve been a few times and it’s incredible. Very happy with his choice.

Don’t know if your still paying attention to this thread, but Notre Dame sounds like a fantastic fit. It’s about 8k undergrads, great school spirit, busy, many great academic programs. Also if you want to stay somewhat close to home still, it would be a perfect fit.

I went to Michigan from a town about 45 miles away where a lot of kids from my class went, and I made TONS of new friends. Sure, I saw some people from my high school occasionally, but not very often unless I wanted to. And honestly, I met lots of new people at college through my high school friends (my best friend from college and a whole network of people she knew came to me because a high school friend of mine met her at orientation). Remember that there are so many students at Michigan that you don’t have to mingle with your HS acquaintances unless you want to.

The people from my HS that went to Michigan when I did are all over the country – they live in California, North Carolina, Washington, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, Oregon, Missouri, Switzerland, and New York – and of course some still live in Michigan. The point is that it is pretty easy to take a Michigan degree and move elsewhere after college if that is what you want.

Of course you will want to apply to some other schools, but don’t skip Michigan just because some of your classmates go there. You are lucky to have an amazing state flagship.
