Colleges that most put importance on the essay?

What are the colleges that most put importance on the essay during admissions?

And of these, if you are so inclined, which are the most politically/socially liberal, not liberal arts, relatively inexpensive, or any combination of the three?

Thank you...!

Your message is a little vague. Almost all major private universities and colleges cost $50,000+ per annum, with state schools being cheaper, etc.

As for essay reading, generally the more selective the university, the more the admissions panel there will put weight on it.

As for your question about liberal schools, they tend to be concentrated in either the northern part of this country or in the western part.

uchicago .

Yes, but that doesn’t mean all privates cost the same. So obviously there are cheaper ones.

And I meant importance on the essay relative to all other criteria.

I’ve heard Reed College and New College of Florida both put much emphasis on the essay submitted.

Both are very liberal liberal arts colleges. Reed is private and expensive, while NCF is public and relatively inexpensive.

NCF is inexpensive only to Florida residents. It costs over $38K for OOS students.

Google for a school’s Common Data Set and look at section C7; for Application Essay one of these will be checked: Very Important, Important, Considered, Not Considered.

Thanks all, helpful stuff so far. What about down one notch in selectivity?

St. John’s College puts a lot of emphasis on the essay. You have to be hardcore into liberal arts to want to go there.

Down one notch in selectivity compared to what?

Compared to say Reed or U of Chicago. I don’t know how selective NCF is, or if I like it; I’ll check it out.

Wake Forest maybe? you don’t have to submit SAT scores so more emphasis is put on the other parts of the application (they have a supplement thats a little different from most of the other school’s i’ve looked at.)
