looking for colleges with good merit scholarships for transfer students from community colleges so please......help a brother out.

Well, you’re probably not gonna get much money, if any, from publics, so privates would be your best option for transfer scholarships.

I live in D/FW and from what I’ve heard, the local privates, SMU and TCU, both offer fairly good scholarship packages for students from local community colleges, assuming they meet certain criteria, such as above an X gpa, X transfer hours and so on. I’d check out your local privates to see if they have some sort of relationship/transfer agreement with your school.

What state are you in? OOS rates would probably eat up any transfer scholarship. What are your stats?

Transfer money is awful across the board. I transferred from a competitive four year private school with a 18k/year scholarship to a competitive four year private school that requires similar stats as a freshman. I applied with a 3.7 and didn’t get a cent.

Some public universities offer merit scholarships to students who transfer from community colleges in same state as the universities. These are the only colleges I know that offer merit aid to transfers.

Most colleges don’t offer excellent financial aid even to incoming freshmen. Relatively few colleges even offer need-based financial aid to transfers.

USC is one of the few schools to offer merit aid to transfers.

Here are some ideas from our local CC.

oh ma bad i forgot to mention my stats. im in misery excuse me i mean missouri and my gpa is 3.4 hopefully 3.5 by the end of this year so then i can join phi theta kappa. also planning to become a professor in either art or english so i can teach english as a foreign lang. thanks

**** i forgot to mention how many credit hours haha so far only 30 haha and yes im also considering SUNY schools if i go out of state so if anybody knows about aid from SUNY let me know

To teach English as a foreign language at a community college, or in grades k-12, you need an M.Ed. in TESO, not a Ph.D. To work in language institute outside the US, you don’t even need that. Many provide their own training, or only require a short certificate program like CELTA.

Each of the SUNY schools have different scholarship programs, so you’d have to identify which schools would be of interest and then look at their transfer requirements and aid. I wouldn’t expect any of them to have huge amounts available, but the OOS rates are the lowest in the northeast.

Here are a couple examples of SUNY schools (and their general transfer merit awards) that have good education programs (not clear on what level you want to teach). They may have other departmental/endowed scholarships available.

SUNY Oswego - To be eligible for the $1000 merit scholarship, a transfer student must apply for a fall semester, have completed 57 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher. There is no specific scholarship application.

SUNY Oneonta - Transfer students who have at least a 3.5 GPA or better, or who are members of Phi Theta Kappa earning an associate’s degree and who will be a direct transfer will be considered. Scholarships are only awarded to students entering in the Fall.

SUNY Cortland - Admitted freshmen and transfer students with high academic credentials and recognized leadership in student activities. Transfer students must have four completed semesters at time of transfer (three semesters at time of application). Strong leadership skills and involvement in student activities will be favored. Work related or volunteer positions are also considered valuable. Preference given to entering freshmen in a strong college preparatory program with a 90+ grade point average, 1100+ SAT score or 24+ ACT score, as well as first-time transfer students with 3.5+ GPA’s. $2500 annual award.
