Colleges that offer out-of-state waivers? - International students

Hi all,

Like the title says, I am looking for colleges that offer resident rates to international applicants based on academic merit or SAT scores. I don't have the best academic record (it's rather poor, actually) but if I get in-state rates I will be able to afford, a decent state University in America.

I am an adult freshman who has been working as an engineering technician for a few years, and have saved up ~$18000 (including living expenses) toward my first years tuition. I have seen many good state schools with in-state tuition and fees at $8000 - $10 000, so I know they exist. However, when they add the out-of-state/non-resident portion, it becomes unaffordable to me.

My Bio:
Converted High School GPA = 3.06
Composite SAT I = 1880
CR = 620
M = 640
W = 620

Work Experience = SMT production engineer (Electronics industry) 2 yrs.

*I am not looking for any "full-ride" scholarships as I understand that these are hard to come by, and certainly not with my GPA and SAT scores. International student scholarships (out-of-state waivers) or any other such avenues based on my SAT scores is what I am after.

You would likely qualify for such a waiver at Mississippi State, and at several of the Louisiana public schools.

There are also colleges in the US with very low non-resident tuition, such as many of the Minnesota publics.

you’ll have to look at the details. Some schools only award to those who are still in high school and are applying to college.

Look in the archives for Momfromtexas threads on how to get a full ride scholarship. Using her methodology, you may be able to get some affordable school with your stats. Things change very quickly these days, so you really have to contact each school after reading their website to see if it is a possibility for you. Good luck.
