Colleges that offer the best PTK scholarships

Hey guys, I'm currently a CC student and about to be a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Basically I'm interested in which schools offer the best scholarships for PTK members. I saw U of Oklahoma gives $7,000 annually for OOS (as I am)

Are there any other great ones out there? I kind of want a decent (top 150 US news national ranking-ish school// yes, I am aware that rankings aren't everything, I am just interested in big, well-known schools)

Thanks guys... this is my first post so sorry if I sound weird.

doesn’t PTK have the colleges with scholarships listed on their website?

yes, I was about to address that because I knew someone was just about to post something this lol -_-

they do indeed have the colleges. they do not, however, state any specific amounts offered by each college. there are hundreds listed, i was merely asking if anyone knew any good ones…

i have read the website and searched many a school on there. just asking around, man.

something like*

Rutgers has a decent one too, schweet.

Have you asked the transfer advisor at your CC about this? That person may have good ideas for you.

How much do you need? For instance…it sounds like the UOkla one doesn’t even cover the OOS extra charge (which is about $11k more than instate). While that’s certainly better than nothing, it would still leave you with about $22k+ per year to pay at an OOS school that’s not going to give you much FA (other than basic fed aid if you qualify).

What do your instate publics do for PTK? That may get you the best deal since it will reduce instate costs.

What state are you in?
What is your budget (how much can you spend?)

Im currently in Texas but want to attend an OOS! (yes, I know it’s much cheaper in state haha)

my budget would be under 20k a year for tuition (after any scholarships)

U of Oklahoma is around 19k a year OOS and the 7k would take it to around 12k so it would help a lot.

Does anyone know how much UMich gives? They are listed on the website but I can’t seem to did anything more on it

Umich is unlikely going to be affordable. OOS cost is $50k per year, and I am certain that they don’t give much for PTK.

=========

U of Oklahoma is around 19k a year OOS and the 7k would take it to around 12k so it would help a lot.

The above is for tuition only. You need to include room, board, fees, books, travel, personal expenses, etc.

The COA for UOk for an OOS student is much higher…with the PTK scholarship, cost would be about $22k.

Ok…so your family will spend $20k per year? If so, you probably do have some choices, but you’re going to have go down the ladder…no schools like UMich.

What about Arkansas? Don’t they give discounts to Texas residents?

yes, i am aware that the 19k is for tuition only. as previously stated, my budget is 20k for tuition. i am only looking at tuition right now.

I know that I will have to buy books and have personal expenses, my family is willing to pay 20k for tuition.

I just want to know if anyone knows any universities that are generous in regard to PTK scholarships.

and I visited the Arkansas campus and didn’t really like it. I already have a few TX schools in mind, I was just seeing if there were any OOS schools that I could look into if they were generous enough, OU kind of fits the bill as it would only be a couple thousand more than an in-state school after the 7,000 is cut off.

==============

I’m sorry…I’m confused. Your family is willing to pay $20k for TUITION (that’s not room, board, books, etc)…so you’re only looking at TUITION costs? How will you pay for room, board, books, fees, etc??? That can be another $15k or so per year.

Anyway…have you looked at UT-Dallas? It’s an up and coming school.

What’s your major? If we knew that it might help.

Also…look at Truman State…very generous with scholarships. I’m guessing that you don’t only want PTK scholarships, right? If so, also look at Univ of New Mexico…also generous with scholarships.

are you serious lol? yes I know i will have to pay for room and board lmao.

i am looking for a school with tuition costs that will be under 20k after PTK scholarships.

I’m not sure how else to phrase that lol…

Don’t worry. I realize that it costs money to live under a roof and eat. My family and I are simply looking for places with under 20k tuition -_________-

thank you for your help guys,

I think I’ll just figure it out without the valuable CC input.

No need to be rude.

It’s unlikely many here are going to know details about various schools’ PTK scholarships…many here have gone directly to 4 year univs so haven’t dealt with this issue.

Also…since your real interest seems to be reducing tuition cost, I mentioned a couple of schools that might give you good scholarships even if the scholarships aren’t PTK.

And…regarding the “tuition budget”. Many people call the entire school cost “tuition” so I wasn’t sure I was understanding you properly since you were only focused on THAT cost. It is VERY unusual for people to focus ONLY on tuition cost. People generally focus on the ENTIRE cost since that’s what they will be dealing with AND because Room and Board costs can vary wildly at various schools. At one school, R&B may be about $6k…while at another school it may be $15k. It would seem (to me) that if a school has a R&B cost of $6k, then that tuition could cost a bit more, and still be CHEAPER overall then the school whose R&B is $15k.

Maybe you’re assuming that R&B costs are about the same everywhere, so you’re not considering that…their costs aren’t close to the same…not at all.

Anyway…no need to be rude.
