Colleges that over/under value test scores

The bizarre thing is U Chicago claims to only “consider” standardized test scores. Yet their range is 1450-1550, one of the highest in the nation. I don’t fully believe that they value essays so much––looking at the data, it’s hard to dismiss the importance of SAT/ACT to them.

Every other ultra-selective school with similar test scores identifies test scores as “very important.” What’s the discrepancy here?

@golfcashoahu their ACT range is 32-34 I believe as well. So it is interesting

@Lift35 32-35, even more interesting. I just don’t understand how they claim to only “consider” test scores when every other school with similar scores mark them as “very important.”

UC is kind of famous for the quirky essay prompts…clearly they like that.

It may be a case of, as MIT says, kids who UC wants because of “x” also happen to have high test scores.

I think UC Berkeley undervalues test scores as their test score range is extremely high.

@aravindsk - sure, the UCs are woefully underfunded and take lots of internationals full-pay. If when you wrote “UC’s are nearly impossible for internationals” you meant “for internationals who need FA,” then yes, you’re correct.

Well, yeah. Thats what I meant because almost everyone who goes to the UC’s from India are full pay.
I guess quality education does come at a price :confused:

@NickFlynn Northwestern is 1390-1540

@NickFlynn – Vandy just published for 2015 admits – 32-35 and 1430-1580. The gap is larger but the top 25% is ridiculously high.

Yeah, most of the data from the original post was actually 13-14 year data from IPEDS, in some cases updated to 14-15 from available CDS data.
