I want to major in engineering or premed, specifically Computer and maybe Electrical engineering.

My GPA including Freshman Year is around 3.55 unweighted and 3.82 weighted

My GPA not including Freshman year and only sophmore + Junior is 3.85 unweighted and 4.12 weighted

I am looking for colleges that do not count Freshman GPA (just course rigor)

My SAT score is 2130

Colleges I already know are on my list:

UC Berkeley
UCLA
Umich

EC's:
3 Years of debate team
4 years of Ping Pong club, 2 years Vice President
National Science Honor Society
5 Years of recreational tennis at a private club
Team America Rocket team for two years
President of RISK club
National Honor Society
300++ community service hours at a hospital
NASA internship program

I am an Indian (from India) male living in Texas

I doubt I will be able to get into UTA because i’m in one of the most competitive high schools in Texas AKA (not top 10 percent) so It would be really hard for me to get into one of the competitive programs (engineering/business) at UTA… although A&M is a college I am considering because of the price and location

Even the mid tier UCs have good engineering, but for $50K/yr in huge classes during a budget crisis, I’d be looking to smaller private colleges if your in state schools don’t work. CMU, Union, RIT…

Apply to some non major flagship publics. UMich, UCB, UCLA all would be very expensive for OOS, and it may be difficult for you to get in because your gpa isn’t that great and state schools are very numbers oriented.

*although A&M is a college I am considering because of the price and location *

If you’re concerned about price, WHY are you considering Berkeley, UCLA, etc? The UCs don’t give aid to OOS students. You’ll pay $50k to go there.

What is your budget?

Are you a green card resident or citizen?

What about Texas Tech?

If you need aid, then you may have to apply to mid-tier privates and publics that give good need-based or merit aid.

Don’t limit yourself to schools that don’t look at frosh grades. Your frosh grades are FINE. It’s not like you’re applying to ivies. Few schools are going to care that your grades as a frosh were lower.

I think you have some time to think about a major, didn’t you say you were a sophomore in high school? You may change your mind many times before you actually have to declare a major by your sophomore year of college.

I do not need financial aid as my family is in a very good position economically and can afford paying 50,000 a year for college but even families who could afford an expensive college would still look instate for a good school in their field of studies (A&M/UTA). It would be wiser for me to spend 15,000 instate instead of 50,000 out of state, but If my instate options do not work out, I am completely open to an out of state college.

Yes I am a US Citizen and 2college2college, you mentioned CMU. Isn’t CMU very hard to get into? Just asking, correct me if I’m wrong please.
