So I’m really having trouble deciding what schools to apply to. I’m already applying to the following schools but I would like to add an additional school:
-Carnegie Mellon
-University of Cincinnati (CCM)
-Boston Conservatory
-Elon University
-Ithaca College
-Coastal Carolina University
-Texas State University
-Montclair State University
-Pace University
-Point Park
-Rider
-Syrcause
-Ball State
I would like to add at least one more college to my list, the schools I’m considering are:
-Texas Christian University
-Western Michigan
-University of Oklahoma
-Indiana University Bloomington
-University of the Arts
Out of those schools, I have no idea which one to apply to. I don’t like cut programs and I really want a program with a strong focus on each element of musical theater (I’m not the strongest dancer so a program with a strong dance component would be nice). I also have an average GPA but high test scores. All that being said, I have no idea which one of these programs would be the best for me. PLEASE HELP ME!
You’ve got great programs on your list, and the additional programs you have listed that you are still considering are terrific too. University of the Arts is more of a conservatory style while the others you are still considering are more traditional college campuses. So if you have a strong preference in that regard, you might think about that. But other than that, they are all nice programs.
One thing I would say is all of the programs both on the list of those you’ve already applied to and those you are still considering are all tough to get in. Not to confuse the issue further, but you may want to consider some non-audition programs, or some that may have slightly better odds of getting in. Some auditioned programs I can think of you may want to look into for this purpose would be:
Ohio Northern
Northern Kentucky University
Western Kentucky University
Nebraska Wesleyan
Southern Illinois University
Southwest Missouri State
These are all good solid programs. Of course with any auditioned program there is no guarantee of admission, but some of these may have slightly better odds of admission than those on your current list.
There are some threads on CC about non-audition programs I would encourage you to look at as well and see if there are any schools mentioned that may interest you.
Western Illinois University
Rockford University
Western Carolina
All of these programs are a bit easier to get into than those on your original list - and by easier, I mean an acceptance rate of perhaps 10%-20% vs 1%-5%.
(Nebraska does require a pre-screen - I’m fairly certain the others listed by me & @vvnstar do not.)
