Colleges to cut out/add for me?

I'd like to major in Physics/Mathematics at the moment, or something relating to those fields.

Stats:
GPA: 4.0ish weighted, maybe 3.75uw
SAT: Should get it around 2100-2200, SATII's in Math/Physics should be around 800
Rank: Top 10%

ECs:
Science Olympiad
Junior Year: Vice-President, Senior Year: President (I will be)
NJ Southern Regional: 1st Astronomy, 1st Robot Ramble, 3rd Computer This!
NJ States: 1st Astronomy
Also help start a fundrasing program were we take donated items and sell them on eBay

Scientific Research
Possibly doing independent research with a college professor this summer, in the area of Physics.

Environmental Club
Sophomore Year: Secretary, Junior Year: Co-President, Senior Year: Co-President
We created the paper recycling program at our school, and continue to campaign for it - it has been a difficult process
Also had beach clean-ups, T-Shirt sales for the Rainforest

School Newspaper
Editor-in-Chief, also Editor of the Student Voice/School News Section

Model U.N.
Co-founder, also will perhaps be an officer next year

Other Activities
Math League (might have position next year)
Peer Leadership (have to apply to get in, help with Freshman Orientation)
Member of District Media Center (volunteer to help fix tech things in the school during Study Hall/Lunch)
Drama Club, also have sub-lead roles in Freshman/Sophomore Years
National Honor Society
Political Group (Political Leaders of Tomorrow)
Computer Club

Now, my real question. Here are colleges I'm thinking of. Which ones should I get rid of, and which schools should I perhaps add?

[ul][]Brown (legacy, maybe apply ED)
[]Cornell
[]Swarthmore
[]Lehigh
[]Bucknell
[]University of Chicago
[]Wesleyan
[]Oberlin
[]Colgate
[]Tufts[/ul]

Obviously, I need more safeties or safeties in general. What schools to add and cut? I would like to stay in the East Coast, or near (maybe Illinoisish area is fine).

Hmm...ok...

ADD
-University of Michigan
-Johns Hopkins U
-University of Illinois
-MIT(for insane reach)

DUMP
-Colgate (this is a school known for lots of social science majors)

Can't think of any at this moment...:D

u should cutt :
Bucknell
Colgate

I thought Colgate wasn't too bad for the sciences?

I think laxgirl got dumped by a preppie or a Republican somewhere along the line...ergo the crapping on Bucknell and Colgate. The original list looks great.

maybe add northwestern?

Northwestern, though a wonderful pre-professional, etc. type of school, seems much less intellectual than the other colleges on the list.

Doesn't Northwestern have a strong math dept.?

im going out in nine minutes, but i must say the list looks really good. however, its lacking a true safety (only lehigh is likely to have an acceptance rate over 30% next year). throw one in and youre golden.

if i were going to cut a school it would probably be oberlin. it wouldnt be a bad choice for mathematics, but its probably the worst on your list.

as for bucknell, its one of only three liberal arts colleges (along with swarthmore and harvey mudd) to place in the top ten in the william lowell putnam mathematics competition in the last twelve years. it is actually the most recent of the three to do so (in december 2004) and was joined in the top ten that year by seven other american universities: mit, caltech, princeton, harvard, duke, berkeley and stanford.

the other two lacs to accomplish the feat are swarthmore and harvey mudd, if youre curious.

Might add Holy Cross-Patriot League rival of Colgate and Bucknell. Unlike most LAC's that are in the middle-of-nowhere, Holy Cross is only 1 hour from Boston.

How about Case Western as a safety?

i think harvey mudd is a good match/reach.

(i've said that like 4 times in the last 5 minutes so i'm starting to feel like a broken record... but please excuse me)

Bump 10char

What about Carnegie Mellon?

Fandangoya, you probably don't need another reach but I'd suggest that you take a look at Williams which has excellent physics and astronomy plus an active environmental science program. Lots of theater opportunities for non-majors as well.

I'd also consider Hamilton, Skidmore and Kenyon as matches. If you're interested in women's school, Smith.

Bump again

you should really consider what sort of social culture you want at a school: bucknell, colgate and lehigh are very, very different from brown, wesleyan and oberlin.

How about Rutgers as a safety? Have you considered finances? All of your schools are expensive. U Rochester is probably a reasonable match/safety.

carnegie mellon u

I've read a little about the differences...but can you explain them a little more clearly to me?
