Colleges to Visit in Boston & Other College Suggestions

Hi, I'm a currently a Junior in high school, and I'm a wee bit late on the whole getting-ready-for-college train. I'll be making my first college visits this spring break and I will be spending about a week in Boston, MA. So far I plan on visiting, BU (though its a bit too "city" for me), Northeastern, and Tufts... but I definitely want to look at others. But where?

I'm looking for schools that are diverse in the majors they offer but have strong science programs, a good research program is an additional plus. I think I may want to gear towards a more bio-focused major, but that's definitely not concrete. I prefer schools that aren't very large and that are not very religiously centered. Also, no all girls schools.

My Grades:
I attend a very rigorous high school, ranked #4 in the nation by newsweek.
My cumulative average is a 97.48, and I am taking all honors/college level courses. Next year I will be taking AP Bio, AP Environmental Science, AP Calc BC, and AP Spanish.
My school doesn't rank, but I know I have the 5th highest unweighted GPA (out of about 60)
I haven't taken SATs yet but my PSAT was a 215.
I also plan on taking SAT IIs in chemistry, math II, and possible literature.

EC:
Secretary of Performing Arts club
President of 4-H Club
Prom Committee
Multicultural Club
Experimental Research Group (I have won numerous awards at science fairs)
Marching band freshman and sophomore year
Field Hockey
National Honors Society

About Me:
Caucasian
Female
Non affiliated with any religious organization
Divorced parents, father re-married

Also, any suggestions for colleges to look at outside of Boston? I'm planning on looking at Swarthmore, Vassar, and Ithaca among a few others. I don't want to go too far from home, so I plan on staying in the northeast or midatlantic areas.

Thanks so much for your time!

Harvard University

Bowdoin (2 hr north of Boston)
Brown (1 hr south)
Wesleyan (midway between Boston & NYC)

Check out Colgate (hamilton, NY) - their med school acceptance rate is double the national avg according to admission presentation & no grad students so professors teach courses (not TAs) & work directly w/ undergrads for research. Beautiful campus & happy kids. I thought Bucknell was very similiar to Colgate.

While you are going that way you could check out the NY schools- Hamilton, (40 mins away from Colgate), Cornell (aply to Hum Ec school if you want to be accepted), & Ithaca is right there. Skip Syracuse-- it is huge & ugly.

Look in Amherst, Mass. at all 5 of the colleges in or near that town: Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Amherst, Hampshire, and UMass.

I went to UMass which for you would be a safety. Enroll in any of the schools and you can take classes in any of the others. Wonderful free bus system among all the campuses. Nice towns (Amherst and Northampton.)

If you manage to get out there to visit you should definitely look at Smith while you're there even though you don't want an all girl school. Its proximity to the other schools makes it seem less "all girl" than you might expect. Plus, you never know, you might like it...or...you'll confirm your preference for coed schools.

2 hour drive to Boston.

second that you should check out Brandeis

As a safety-type, I would suggest Clark University in Worcester.
