Hi,
I’m a rising junior who has started looking online for college programs. I am currently taking a college course at Siena College for Human Biology, I have a high school average of 91 that I plan to bring up a bit higher, and I’m really interested in biology, probably wanting to become a doctor. I’m going to visit Union College for an open house very soon. Very interested in the SUNY system because I live in New York and will be eligible for the Excelsior Scholorship. Does anybody else have advice on schools in the northeast I can/should visit? States I’m thinking about are NY, Maine, Mass, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont. Thank you for your help!
Yes, look at Niagara University. My daughter is going there in the Fall and will end up ,once her scholarships are added in, paying not much more per year than a SUNY. She loved the orientation and we have only heard good things from those who went there or knew someone who went there. A co-worker’s son went there and got accepted to medical school at Washington University and is now an intern.Check it out.
It’s still a little early for you to be looking. Will you need FA? Merit? Test scores will help define options as well.
Union is a great school and has a BS/MD program you may want to look into.
As you look, pay attention to the environment to figure out what would be best for you.
If you’re looking at SUNY schools with pre-med programs, Stony Brook is worth a visit. Northeastern University is strong in the sciences, too, and gives out pretty good scholarships.
