Can someone suggest me colleges/universities (preferably either in the east/west coasts)that offer good art and science programs? I really really need someone's advice!!!! Thankyou. :)

There are literally hundreds and hundreds…we just can’t name off some.

We need more info.

What is your home state?

What is your GPA

What are your test scores?

How much will your family pay each year?

What is your likely major?

Your stats and your family’s budget will strongly influence where you should apply.

Home: Japan
GPA (accumulated 10-11th grade) 3.9
Test scores: Haven’t taken them yet; taking them this October
Family: They are really supportive so I think money would be fine
Likely major: Biology/Art (not architecture, computer graphics, sculptures, or art history)

Thanks :)

Since it can easily cost $55k+ per year for an int’l to go to school in the US, ask them to be sure. They may be thinking that you’ll get a scholarship or aid.

Once you have test scores it will be easier to recommend schools.

What else do you want in a school?

small

Dear mom2collegekids,
Thankyou for the advice; I’ll make sure once again with my parents about college fees. :)

I would prefer going to schools that are…
- small
- have strong academics
- in the west coast/ east coast (including north east)
- have good campuses

But, most importantly, I really want to go to schools that offer both good art/biology programs!!!
:)

I would like to have a general idea of colleges that I am thinking of applying, so although I haven’t taken anyt tests yet, can you recommend me schools that are strong in art/biology majors and fit the preferences I listed as above? Thankyou soo much. I really really appreciate it. :)

I think a LAC or small private univ would be nice…mostly all of them will have good bio programs. Hopefully some here would be able to recommend some that also have good art programs.

The top LACs…like Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore…
are women’s colleges ok…like Smith and Mt Holyoke?
U San Francisco
Loyola Marymount (in LA)
Loyola Chicago
Fordham (NY)

Brandeis in Massachusetts. They have strong science departments, and I think the art department is better than most.

Chapman University in California has merit-aid for international student, so if you have decent stats, you might take a look there.

SUNY Geneseo - Top Public LAC in NY

[SUNY Geneseo | SUNY Geneseo](http://www.geneseo.edu)

Reed, Whitman, Colgate, Middlebury, Bowdoin, BC…too many to list…make aure the scores are high though.

Thankyou soo much everyone!!
I’ll learn more about those colleges you recommended me
to make sure that they are the right ones for me :)

If you find more colleges/universities that fit my preferences, please tell me!
I would really appreciate it :)

These small liberal arts colleges fit all your requirements, strong sciences – especially biology – plus strong studio art: Williams, Wesleyan, Hamilton, Haverford, Kenyon.
Smith, if you are female.
These have good art departments and are good academically but I’m not sure about biology. (This isn’t a “no.” I really don’t know) Vassar, Conn College, Skidmore, Oberlin.

Among the ivy league: Yale and Brown.

You should plan to submit a slide/CD portfolio of your work, even if you consider yourself more of a science person than an artist. See the individual college websites or the common application for instructions.

Small LACs admit few internationals. Very few are need blind so not needing financial aid can be a plus. Colleges in or near urban centers get a lot of Asian applicants; at the more remotely located schools Asians are still considered URMs (which is also helpful in admissions). I’d put Williams, Hamilton, Kenyon in this category.

momrath- thankyou for the recommendations!! I’ll look into those colleges :)

So far, I am thinking of these colleges: So far, I am thinking of these colleges:

Amherst College
Boston College
Carnegie Mellon University
Colby College
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
Hamilton College
Smith College
University of Rochester
University of Southern California
Wesleyan University
Yale University

Do you think these colleges/universities offer good biology and art programs?
If not, can you please point out which ones don’t?
Once again, thankyou to those who comment!!! I really appreciate it
because it’s really hard to get info. about US universities here in Japan :P

USC is not “small” at all.

rjkofnovi: Initially, I wanted to go to schools that were “small” but I couldn’t find schools that had all of what I wanted so I gave up about the school sizes :P

It’s interesting that Asians are considered URM at more rural LAC. Momrath. do you know how if Asians are considered URM at Haverford or Swarthmore? Besides Williams and Hamilton, do you know what other selective LACs where Asians are considered URM?

Asians technically can’t be considered URMs at any school if the school is at least 4.5% Asian. They are not considered URM at Haverford or Swarthmore. Swarthmore is ~15% Asian.

Neither are Williams, Hamilton, and Kenyon (5%).
