I am a Christian girl and my parents (and I) want me to go to a Christian college. I do highly prefer a Christian college over any other but my parents strongly insist. But I want to major in zoology and so far I haven't found any Christian colleges with a good zoology program and/or department. Do you know of any??

Oh and is it possible for me to take the general courses or courses for like biology (because the course requirements are similar right?) in a Christian college and then transfer the credits to a secular one and finish there? What chances would I have in having all or most of my credits successfully transferred?

I doubt there are any. Zoology programs tend to be few and far between these days, and most of them are at large public universities.

Your best bet would be to select a Christian college with strong life science offerings. Hope and Earlham come to mind, if they are religious enough.

Read my and other posts on zoology in past threads:

Be aware that you would likely need a MS degree in order to go into zoology as a career, and you would definitely have to attend a secular university for that.

Don’t know what qualifies as a “Christian College” to you and your family. Rhodes has an affiliation with the Presbyterian Church (USA), so that might qualify.

Rhodes doesn’t have a zoology program, but it has a very strong biology program of which zoo is a part. We’re also literally across the street from the Memphis Zoo and have a research partnership with them. Several students work and research over there. It’s rated one of the best zoos in the nation.

I can’t comment with regard to Christian colleges but I would like to offer a word of caution about transferring basic science credits from one university to another. Not every intro biology course is identical and if you transfer to a new university without taking that department’s intro course, you might find yourself behind your peers and stuck playing catch up. In cumulative fields like biology, this could cause you to be behind for several semesters. At the very least, I would urge you to compare the syllabi from intro biology classes at whatever college you hope to start at with similar syllabi from other institutions that you would hope to transfer to.

Perhaps I am a little biased since I have much to do with our Zoology program at Olivet Nazarene University but it is a fantastic program. I am a professor in the program and help develop many of unique parts of the program which make it distinctive. We will be doing work with migratory waterfowl on the Yukon Delta in AK this next summer as part of our Arctic Biology course. Come join us.
