There are. But you may not have heard of them before. I know UAH offers full tuition for at least 30 ACT. Room & board would be up to you.

Have you looked at the schools in the threads posted by @WAPacker ?

This is fun. Wait til you get and lose a job. That bites.

I agree CC is not the way for you to go, so it will have to be full tuition. That means keeping your sights aimed at schools like UAH.

U of Alabama (retake for 32 ACT)
Ohio State (You could try for the Morrill diversity scholarship. You don’t necessarily have to be a minority to get the scholarship.)

Those scores would get him a full ride at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. It is a very clean and safe school with a beautiful campus, close to a very nice town. It doesn’t have the “name recognition” but it would give him a solid education. It does trend more to a commuter school, but they have just built a huge new dorm.

Parents will pay for 1 year of college, whether it be 45k or 10k. If I can snag enough scholarships from my school, outside sources, and the college to bring it below 10k, then they’ll consider paying those costs for all 4 years.

cray-cray

get a commitment that they (your dad?) will do the 10k per year deal.

does that parent understand that you have llitle/no means to pay for the other 3 years?

do you live with mom? what is their income?

Hi, i was reading your initial post and almost thought i was reading about myself. I am also going to be a senior from wisconsin and have a 3.95 unweighted GPA, weighted 4.4, 32 ACT, good ECs, and will have 8 APs and one CLEP… so obviously our stats and In state/out of state situations are extremely similar. However, I want to go to business school probably for Actuarial Sciece or Finance so that is different.

UW Madison is probably my most likely school right now… it will cost around 24k for us to go there and based on your financial situation with your parents you could possibly get that down a little with external scholarships and maybe talk them into paying for 2 or 3 years at that cost if they were willing to do 45k for that first year at another school. Ive toured there and it was even better than i expected. Like mentioned before on this thread, U of Alabama has a full tuition OOS scholarship for 32 ACT, 3.8 UW GPA, and apply by DEC 15, so you could look into that. I figured after getting full tuition scholarship the costs for everything else including travel from wisco would be about 13 or 14k. Also look at U of M Twin Cities, they are a top state school and if the wisconsin-minnesota deal goes for another year you could get In state cost there which is even less than at Madison. Lastly, a Private school im looking at would be Drake in Des Moines. It is in the Midwest still and costs about 40k per year. However I feel you or I could get some merit there because they have many scholarships including a presidential scholarship which ranges from 8-14k and their avg gpa is 3.7 and ACT is 26. I am considering them heavily though just because they have a great actuarial science program, which would not apply to you obviously.

Hope this rant about all of my findings helps you, feel free to message me if you want to talk about college search because i feel as if we are in the same boat with similar stats and due to the fact that I also want to go to a prestigious college but dont want to pay a ton.

Miami (OH): <a href=“Scholarships | Costs and Financial Aid | Miami University”>Scholarships | Costs and Financial Aid | Miami University; - decent merit for a 31 but better if you can get a 32.

@mom2collegekids I split time equally between both houses.

@"Erin’s Dad" I have looked at the list, but I’m really trying to stay in the Midwest!

@movemetoo Thanks! I’ll check that school out.

@OHMomof2 Thank you!!!

@wisconsin13 I LOVE UW-Madison. I just wasn’t sure if I’d be able to afford it! I want to get my masters/maybe attend law school, so don’t want to go into massive debt for undergrad. At the same time, I want to get a quality education. If I’m going to be writing a check for student loans for years to come, then I want to know that that money bought something.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your advice.

Consider College of Wooster (all students required to do independent research project), St Olaf’s, maybe Denison, Kalamazoo College, or Earlham for merit money.

Also, take a look at threads on financial aid and scholarship board, and try to talk with your parents in more detail. Do they understand you individually can only borrow about $5000. max per year? Any additional loans would require them to co-sign and it doesn’t sound like they are willing to consider that.

Good luck, there are some terrific schools out there, including ones with automatic scholarships.

@snax03 I agree with the other posters about hitting ACT 32; studying poly sci, you could put UA on the list to check out with full merit scholarship (which may make it cheaper to attend than UW-M). I grew up in WI and was on UW-Madison campus last week; my niece is a senior at UW and loves it. I now live in AL. One of my students is going to UA (civil eng, honors, STEM MBA) and one is going to UAB (nursing scholars and honors).

UA offers some fabulous opportunities to students via honors college and other programs. I am way more pumped about UA - there is a great personal connection at UA, even as a pretty large school. Students and parents connect via facebook before even starting, and there are great students and families. Lots of spirit for the whole package at UA.

I would also check out some of the in-state or nearby state private colleges that are strong in poly sci - you may get good merit and it might be a good fit. H and I both were from small towns in WI and went to private colleges in Milwaukee, but the tuition difference then and now is a different story. My kids and you are much more education-savvy than H and I were.

Perhaps your dad would commit to a portion of college expenses per year if he was involved in the process?

I am a cancer survivor, and hope the best for your step-dad.

Ursinus College and Muhlenberg

I believe you would qualify for full tuition to U New Mexico with a 31.

New College of FL might be too small and quirky for you, but their out-of-state cost of attendance, exclusive of any need-based aid, is about $25k for next year.

Ohio Wesleyan University has great scholarships. Located about 30 minutes north of Columbus, Ohio. Free online application.

Actually, the OOS COA is around $40K.
