Colleges With Good Fight Songs

Hail, Hail, to Michigan, the champions of the West!

Shows how old the Victors is, Ann Arbor was “West” back then :)

It is one of the first songs our daughters learned to sing (with three generations of Michigan grads helping them along). Those toddler fist pumps on the “Hail, Hail” part are pretty cute. We all burst into the Victors as soon as we cross the state line into Michigan whenever we go there.

usc…fight on!

Tulane for the win.
A one, a two, a hell of a hulavaloo!

Not really. The band plays the song just about anytime the other team doesn’t get a first down, and it’s not that rare to hear it even if they do. The only time there’s a guarantee they won’t play it is on a long gain or TD. The repetitive nature of the song doesn’t help either.

On Wisconsin, Hail to the Victors, the Notre Dame fight song are all pretty impressive. “Rocky Top” is well known but not a favorite of mine.

Just for posterity, that is a typo. It is hulabaloo.

And those two lines are shouted right before the fight song, “Roll On Tulane”

on wisconsin FTW!

I personally love Michigan State’s fight song. [I might be a tad biased]

On the banks of the Red Cedar,
There’s a school that’s known to all;
Its specialty is winning,
And those Spartans play good ball;
Spartan teams are never beaten,
All through the game they’ll fight;
Fight for the only colors:
Green and White.

Go right through for MSU,
Watch the points keep growing,
Spartan teams are bound to win,
They’re fighting with a vim!
Rah! Rah! Rah!
See their team is weakening,
We’re going to win this game,
Fight! Fight! Rah! Team, Fight!
Victory for MSU!

^michigan’s is way better :p

well to be honest i cant say which one is better, but the victors has a catchier tune

I can’t honestly say MSU has all that great a fight song because Wisconsin used the same tune, and did it earlier as well. Both basically ripped off an old gospel tune, so points off to both ot them.

I always liked Wake Forest’s fight song, plus wheneve a big play happens, they play Zombie Nation :D

wvu has a great fight song! but nothing beats the pride of west virginia playing country roads =]

I find the best to be Georgia Tech, Purdue, Wake Forest, and Connecticut.

I think UCLA stole Berkeley’s fight song before 1984. I was at UCLA from '75-'77 and UCLA was already using “Hail, hail, hail to California” (but with different lyrics) as its fight song.

UCLA’s been playing Sons of Westwood since the 40’s. It’s a different arrangement of Big C, with some changes to the actual song and considerable changes to the style. The UCLA band also has a very different instrumental composition, which has a huge effect on the style.

The Notre Dame Victory March is clearly the best :)

(Sons of Westwood)
High up in the hills of Westwood
Sprawled offensive to the eye
Lies a Cal extension campus
Known as Westwood High (high high high)
Home of all the Bruin bearcubs
UGLY is its name
The student body’s vile
The football team’s a pile
and the campus is a shame!

U (clap clap clap) G (clap clap clap) L (clap clap clap) Y (clap clap clap)
U G L Y Eat My Shorts!

Purdue’s Hail Purdue.

:)

Because some of us place merit in using standard English?

Through extensive playing of NCAA Football 10, I can label many fight songs with the schools.

Hail, Hail To Old Purdue!
All Hail To Our Old Gold And Black!
Hail, Hail To Old Purdue!
Our Friendship May She Never Lack.
Ever Grateful, Ever True,
Thus We Raise Our Song Anew; (BOILER UP!)
Of The Days We’ve Spent With You,
All Hail Our Own Purdue!

Gotta love the Wake Forest lyrics.

O’ Here’s to Wake Forest
A glass of the finest
Red ruby rhenish filled up to the brim
Their sons they are many
Unrivaled by any
Who’s hearts overflowing we will sing a hymn
Rah, Rah, Wake Forest, Rah
Old Alma Mater sons are we. (GO DEACS!)
We’ll herald the story and die for her glory
Old Gold and Black is ever waving high.

I think live (for football), I’ve seen UConn 13 times, Louisville 2 times, Wake Forest 2 times, USF 2 times, WVU 1 time, Pitt 1 time, Cincy 1 time, Syracuse 1 time, Rutgers 1 time, Boston College 1 time, Hofstra 1 time, UVA 1 time, Baylor 1 time, UNC 1 time, and Akron 1 time.

As for this year, we plan on seeing: Texas Southern @ UConn, UConn @ Temple (maybe), Buffalo @ UConn, Vandy @ UConn, UConn @ Rutgers (probably), WVU @ UConn, Pitt @ UConn, UConn @ Syracuse (probably), Cincy @ UConn, ACC Champ vs. UConn in the Orange Bowl (hopefully  ). Yes, I will have a busy fall schedule :D
