Hello! I’m about to be a senior in high school, and I’m in the process of choosing colleges to apply to (I’m a bit behind in the whole college app process, I know :c ). I’ve been considering a career as a dentist, and I’m trying to find colleges that have good pre-dental programs or offer a lot of support to pre-dental students. Does anyone know of any such colleges? Any help would be appreciated! c:
University of the Pacific
Many hundreds of schools woudl fit the bill. Seek out schools that are good matches for your academic profile, that appear affordable, and that have anything else you want in a college (ex. big time sports, location, Greek Life, size etc.).
Please provide:
-GPA
-Test scores
-Important ECs
-Budget
-Home state
-Preferences on location/size/sports etc
UCLA!
Thanks for all the replies, they’re super helpful!
@newjerseygirl98
-my GPA is 4.0 unweighted and 5.4286/6.0 weighted (I’m currently ranked #1 in my class of ~500).
-I got a 2390 on the old SAT and an 800 on the SAT Biology subject test (planning to take SAT math 2 soon). I got a 33 on the ACT (with no preparation; I wasn’t planning on taking it at all but it was mandatory at my school). For AP tests, I’ve taken AP Chinese, World History, Calc BC, Macroeconomics, US History, Statistics, Eng. Lang., Microeconomics, and Biology and gotten all 5s.
-For ECs, I’m on the tennis team at my school and I play viola in the school orchestra (I’m a section leader). I also worked in a college lab this summer researching postpartum cervical repair and I might get published soon as a co-author on my professor’s research?? (idk if this counts as an EC but I thought I’d mention it anyway :P) I also tutor children in my neighborhood and teach them basic Chinese.
-My budget isn’t really a concern (my parents have a pretty high income), but I’m still going to apply for scholarships and whatnot (free money is always good!)
-I’m from NC, but I (sort of really) want to go out of state for college. (If I can’t find somewhere I like or if I don’t get in anywhere else I’ll probably end up going to UNC Chapel Hill)
-Preferences: I’d love to go somewhere that’s pretty liberal and is in/near a good sized city. I’d prefer east or west coast; somewhere in California would be pretty ideal haha. I’d also like to apply to some more selective schools.
Thanks and sorry for all the text!
So your parents are good with paying >$70K/year? Ask them.
You don’t need to go to a selective undergrad to get into Dental School. Look up some of some of e student profiles and you’ll see that they come from all kinds of schools. Dental school is very expensive so you want to keep your UG costs as low as possible, despite your parents’ “pretty high income.”
Tufts always comes up with regards to dentistry.
And I second what @snarlatron said. Money is one of, if not the most, important part(s) of undergrad for dental school.
Your scores are great and I’m sure you could find acceptances and scholarships to many colleges that would interest you.
