My son is going to be a high school junior and we're looking for schools with undergrad business. Please suggest schools which don't require someone to apply to the b-school after the 1st or 2nd year. Too risky. Also, perhaps a school without a huge core requirement so he could possibly major in something else too.

He's not getting into Wharton, Cornell, or NYU. Possibly Wash U early decision. What else should we look at?

To be honest, if you think his chances at Wharton, NYU, and Cornell are rough, his chances at WashU will be equally rough.

What’s your location? Your state schools, depending on state, might have some good programs. Having a general idea of his stats will also help with recommendations.

His sister went to Wash U and I think it’s easier to get into than Wharton or Cornell and possibly Stern too. I think he should apply to Indiana - that’s on the list. We live in NJ. He doesn’t want to look at Rutger’s but maybe can be persuaded.

His GPA is about 4.1 weighted. Hard curriculum, rigorous public high school. Doesn’t have SATs yet. SAT II - bio 750, US history 760. good extracurriculars.

If his SAT is 2000+ he definitely has a shot at Stern. But of course NYU is notorious for poor FA, if that matters. Honors Rutgers isn’t a bad option either, to have even as a backup.

2000+ for Stern? Really? I would have thought it would be higher. I think he’d be miserable there though - no sports and it seems like kind of a lonely place.

That’s 2 people who mentioned BC. I never considered it because we’re not Christian and it seems really hard to get into. Same thing with Notre Dame. Is BC very competitive and very Catholic?

Does anyone recommend any of the schools in DC?

DC there are three major and three good schools. Georgetown, George Washington University, and American University. AU is more of a politics and international relations school and doesn’t have much emphasis on Business. GW has a pretty good business school with about a 40%acceptance rate. When I visited the multicultual office at GW I told the director that I wanted to study business and he said that the business school is the best school in the university. Take it as you want it. I suggest GW because they actually get proffesors that are important in their own respective fields.
Georgetown obviously is the most mprestigiious with a 20% acceptance rate. Really hard to get into and it is also a jesuit school like BC, Fordham, and ND.
Don’t be scared at going to a jesuit/catholic school because it’s different than say a catholic highschool. The Jesuit part is just a tradition. The most you will have to take on campus is a “morals and business course” or one theology course but that’s it. Also I highly suggest Boston University. It has a 58% acceptance rate, could be a good safety, but the acceptance rate is because it’s a big school.

The tops are UPenn, MIT and UCB, some times Columbia is considered as a UG B School… Chicago has a lot of Econ student went to Investment Banking… So is Princeton…

UG B Schools have a blurry line between real Business Program and Econ.
