Colleges with good vocal programs (I want to double major)

I'm currently a senior and have been looking into colleges where I could both pursue vocal performance and math.

My list so far consists of:
NYU Steinhardt
Queens College
Colombia
Barnard
Boston University
Oberlin
Carnegie Mellon
Bard
Binghamton

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Indiana University. A friend who is an east coast music professor tells me they have the best opera program in the country and top notch on vocal performance.

Eastman School of Music/U of Rochester.

How you would do it depends on which one you want to be primary, but I think it’s quite do-able. Contact Admissions for all your options, including Take Five, a free 5th year.

U of Rochester, U of Michigan

There are many threads that would be of interest to you on the Music Major Forum- about pursuing vocal performance: double degree programs - double majoring with a BA in Music with a Vocal Performance emphasis and another subject - studying vocal music in a college music program rather than music school or conservatory - analyses of different vocal music programs - auditioning etc. I recommend you pop over to the forum and search through the hundreds of threads. As well as post any questions you might have there for the many folks who are very knowledgeable about vocal performance.

Heed spiritmanager’s advice, go to the music majors forum and know that for many voice programs the pre-screening material (ie a recording with specific audition rep) is required before 12-1(and some earlier). So,as a senior, it is something you should be working on with your voice teacher right now.

Depending on what kind of voice performance you’re looking for, St Olaf has an amazing vocal program (but nothing with opera) and they offer scholarships for good music students (it’s the kind of school where random people who are not music majors can sight read in 4 part harmony). Lawrence and Oberlin both have a conservatory in addition to the liberal arts college so while Lawrence is not as political as Oberlin, it may be of interest to you.

2nd Indiana - Great for all music students
Also might want to look at Oklahoma City University as a great number of people come out of this relatively small school. (Kristin Chenowith comes to mind as one of their alums)

My best friend is actually planning on double majoring in vocal performance and statistics. A lot of the schools you’ve already mentioned are on her list, but others she is applying to include USC, Chapman University, and Northwestern.

@stanatedj, I thought of OKCU as well until I realized the OP was not the one to bring up opera voice (that was Yalegrad) and that OKCU has a very shallow math major.
