I'm currently in the middle of looking at colleges with a great History department. I am already looking at Yale because I've heard great things about it. Where else should I be looking at?

fortunately most schools have solid history departments, so any top college should suit your needs fine. if you really are interested in some odd places, however, explore some schools course offerings. some school will have stronger areas than others. for example, UVa has great US, European, and east asian history offerings, but only a handful of classes on the middle east and india. if your interested in that part of the world, you wouldn't want to consider UVa for history.

but if you're more interested in rome, greece, US, europe, etc. almost any top school will be great. also, check out ratemyprofessors.com to get an idea of some of the professors. you can learn a lot from it, and its usually more accurate than you'd think.

How does a school have a "bad" history program???

^That's exactly it. Almost all schools have solid history programs, so it just really comes down to fit.
