I recently saw a thread about colleges with good merit aid, and I want to find the schools that DON'T give good merit aid. This is just a general question, not specific to a particular student. All I am looking for is the schools that don't give a good amount of merit aid (basically nickels and dimes) to students at the top of the school's pool of applicants. Also list schools that don't give merit aid, if any. Also, if you have any experience with receiving poor merit aid, please tell us your story.

I think Notre Dame doesn't give any merit aid.

From my experience, public schools are not particularly generous with merit aid, especially if you are out-of-state. The generous ones are usually the schools who wish to improve the caliber of their students and hence they give out big awards to high-achieving applicants as an incentive for them to attend the school. But at other top public schools like University of Michigan, that merit money is very hard to come by (if not nearly impossible).

The IVYies and I believe the NESCAC scools (Amherst, Williams, etc) are not allowed to give merit aid (or athletic scholarships) … they only give financial aid.
