I didn't quite know which topic this goes under, but I guess this counts as a transfer question.

I know that Columbia has a visiting students program, where people from different colleges can apply and go to Columbia for a semester. Recently I got a letter from American University inviting me to spend a semester there as well. I was wondering, is there a list of colleges that offer these visiting student programs? They sound interesting to me, and I may want to pursue that if I don't do study abroad.

Moving this to Search & Selection forum since people participating in visiting students programs are not transferring.

i think a lot of schools have this, actually. i know cornell, yale, and harvard do. if you go to a public school, there is a huge list of national universities that will take you for a semester (i forget what it’s called, but it’s so all of these schools have agreements with each other to take people for a semester or year). more selective schools have more complicated application processes, but i definitely think it’s something to look into. be warned that most will not offer any financial assistance to visiting students.
