Colleges with strong language departments (specifically French)?

I'm really interested in studying languages, specifically French in college. I know Middlebury is known for their emphasis on language, but it's a reach school for me. I received an award for French from Princeton University this year for having the highest grade at my school, but other than that, my grades are average (though I take hard courses) and my SAT score isn't stellar. Does anyone know any schools with strong programs in Languages/French that aren't insanely hard to get into?

Need more information. Your stats please. PM me if you dont want to publish publicly.

Thankfully, romance languages are very commonly strong departments at many colleges, from first tier even through some third tier schools. PhD’s in French love to teach the language…they are not publishing hounds…and will take a good job at almost any college so they can teach/speak the language daily. So you really can’t go wrong.

However, its important to look at colleges from a holistic approach. Yes, you want to investigate their faculty and programs, but you also want to go where you can thrive and succeed, be happy and contented, challenged but not overwhelmed etc. In short, a good fit.

I have several in mind, but you need to tell us your stats first.

hey - I’m actually new at this. I think I messaged you w/ my stats but I’m not sure. Did you get it?

I’m guessing maybe McGill University in Montreal would be among the best places for studying French at an English speaking university.

A plug for my alma mater (BA in French), Miami University - Oxford, OH. Very strong faculty, only about 100 majors, campuses in Dijon and Luxembourg. Otherwise why not consider enrolling directly to a university in France or Belgium (e.g. Dijon, Li

McGill’s French department operates like the French department at a francophone university. A fair level of fluency would be required by sophomore year:
