A link to an older post in the music major forum. Most of the info and school scpecific info is still pertinent. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=72531&highlight=tufts+nec

Double majoring WILL be a five year expedition with very, very few exceptions given the demands of each course of study and lack of overlap.

At Northwestern:

Music and Engineering (BS/BMus or BS/BAMus)
Students may earn in five years both a Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in music degree from the School of Music, plus a Bachelor of Science degree from the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. Every requirement demanded by each degree must be fulfilled. Students may apply directly from high school or before beginning their sophomore year at NU, and must be accepted by both schools.

Since everybody is promoting their school, I might as well promote mine! The University of Michigan has a top 5 Electrical Engineering department and a top 5 school of Music. Double majoring in both will take at least 5 years.

How about Computer Science and Music - same schools?

^ Yep. (10char)

I'd like to thank everyone very, very much for providing such a wealth of advice on this point and for helping to construct a great list of schools. I also appreciate your cautions on the difficulty of scheduling and of the sheer challenge any dedicated study in both these fields presents. As many of you have stated, it seems like the best to personally ask the heads of both colleges/institutions their opinions on whether this makes sense or not at each university.
