^ Would be inspiring if the language classes were conducted in the Russian and Polish Nationality Classrooms at Pitt. lol

Generally speaking, you’re best off with major research universities located near the historic centers of Polish/Slav immigration - these are clustered around the Great Lakes industrial centers: Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland. These will provide critical mass for both supply of scholars and demand from students of Slavic heritage. The short list includes:
Best all around:
- Indiana U. (historically one of the very best Russian language and Russ. & E. European studies programs in the US)
- Michigan (on par w Indiana)
- Wisconsin
2nd Best:
- Ohio State
- Illinois
- U Chicago
Outside of the Great Lakes industrial centers, you’ll find outstanding Russian language or REES programs at:
Best all around:
- Columbia
- Harvard
2nd Best:
- Princeton
- UCLA
- Middlebury
- Yale
- Bryn Mawr/Swarthmore
Maybe also Northwestern - Gary Saul Morson is the best Russian Lit teacher in the US. He regularly attracts hundreds of students to his classes on Tolstoy.
Schools in or near Boston will also have decent Russian language programs: BU certainly, maybe Northeastern and BC.
If you go here https://registrar.wisc.edu/grade-reports/
And open one of the semester PDFs under the course grade-distribution reports, you can see how many people take each class at Wisconsin.
